Kia ora koutou!
I trust you are keeping warm! Hopefully some of these winter days can be like a pause button for you, for some inner quiet time, to ponder and wonder about next steps, and to rejuvenate your energy battery through some rest and stillness.
In a reflective moment, I want to acknowledge and celebrate biodynamic pioneer Peter Procter who peacefully passed the threshold at his home in Havelock North at the beginning of this month, bringing a rich life of service to a beautiful ending. A big part of his life, together with this partner Rachel Pomeroy, was dedicated to the development of Biodynamics, in particular in India. The association of India has published a beautiful collection of various tributes in their recent newsletter
Thank you Rachel for carrying on this important work into the future. Looking forward to hosting you in Paekakariki for the next Toru home gardening course in September. It seemed fitting to celebrate Peter's spirit and work by letting ourselves be transported to India, with the smells and tastes of an Indian Dhal Cooking workshop followed by a Home Screening of the movie 'One Man, One Cow, One Planet. Join us and our friends at 20 Drummond Cres in Kelson, Lower this Saturday. The cooking workshop requires a ticket and the Home Screening is a free event but still get a ticket so we have a sense of numbers.
Networking - a net that works: We are delighted to increase our networking with aligned colleagues and organisations. Our Toru site has a new page 'Toru aligned' A strong alignment lies with Permaculture New Zealand and with all the events and organisations linked into there. This time we want to highlight the Permaculture Teachers training happening in September.
On a more local level, we look towards Otaki and wish to point out a new course from Human Bushcraft, with Steve and Jenny, up at the Otaki River.

The course name Four Seasons reveals its intention - to synchronise us to the rhythm of the natural cycles and to deeply connect with the beauty, regenerative strength and learnings of nature.

We also enjoy our continuous link with Masterton through Hella's fermentation courses and also her Forest School on her property at Mikimiki Road, Masterton.
So....., the Toru tribe is not exactly role modelling quieter times with a variety of courses coming up. But then, it is all in quiet Toru style, promoting hands-on, off-line, slow (eg. fermenting workshop!) and mostly importantly gathering around each others' tables, sharing each others' stories and learning and teaching from each other.
In regard to story telling, our friends from the Kapiti Story telling school 'In the Belly of the Whale' are of course extra excited about our special visitor in Wellington. Who needs Matariki fireworks when we have a whale visiting? Lots to ponder as we gaze upon the stars (our free 'fireworks' light show every clear night!) and reflect on what message our whale is bringing at this time of Matariki.
Happy Matariki time.
