Protected Bike Lanes the New Normal?

Athens in Motion will have 3 more public meetings this summer: 1) July 10th Work Session; 2) July 17th Mayor & Commission Agenda Setting; 3) August 7th the Final Vote! Even though the Mayor & Commission have not yet finalized the plan, we are already seeing its influence.

For example, sections of Barnett Shoals are on the upcoming work schedule. ACC Transportation & Public Works, in collaboration with Toole Design Group, is recommending some excellent improvements for people walking and biking. On July 12, ACC Transportation & Public Works is hosting a public meeting about the Barnett Shoals designs. July 12 5:00pm-8:00pm at Firehouse #7 (2350 S. Barnett Shoals Road, Athens, GA 30605). Road reconfigurations are always controversial, with loud voices arguing for the status quo.  A pro-Complete Streets turnout will help make this design a reality!

Liv/Giant  Avail  Advanced SL1

How long been involved with BA?
Since November 2016

What do you love about BA?
BA is a true melting pot of cycling supporters; those advocating alternative transportation, the commuters who take that alternative transportation seriously, and all those whose only means of transportation is the bicycle.  Finally, there are those of use who think cycling is a blast and fixing up bicycles a challenge.

What was your first bike?
uji Special Road Racer... most beautiful canary yellow , circa 1973.  Stolen, quickly, and replaced by a 1974 Liberia  Belgium - France, a true 10 speed ( 2X5)

Best bike related memory?
Sounds absurd, but my unfortunate crash on Athens-Savannah (Lucky 13), 2014.  Dozens of cyclists and support personnel came to my aid and I realized I was part of a special community.
