MISSION
The purpose of the Friends of Fort Harrison State Park is to collaborate closely with Fort Harrison State Park staff in order to: Support property staff in projects and events that preserve, manage and interpret both the natural and cultural heritage and recreational opportunities of Fort Harrison State Park.

Visit the official Fort Harrison State Park website, the Friends website or the Friends Facebook page to learn of upcoming park and Friends volunteer events. Monthly Friends board meetings are held on the first Thursday of each month at 7:00pm at the Visitors Center (open to the public, all are welcome).

Binocular Donations

At its most recent meeting, the board of the Friends of Fort Harrison voted to purchase 4 sets of good quality binoculars for use by park visitors. These will be help enhance the experience of participants in a variety of programs. If you would like to help support this $400.00 purchase financially, please donate at

Volunteer Events
 
On Wednesday, July 25th, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, the Friends will be painting the Cherry Tree Shelter. Come join us as we put another coat of 'park brown' and stay for a cook out dinner afterward! The Friends group will provide the eats and drinks. Activity level will be light and old clothing that you don't mind getting paint on is recommended. Let us know if you can help out at friendsoffortharrison@gmail.com

On Wednesday, August 1st, from 4:00 to 6:00 pm, we will be performing trail maintenance project along Camp Creek Trail. Water, tools and guidance will be provided - we recommend you bring gloves, a hat and sunscreen. This will require moderate to heavy activity levels. Volunteers meet up at the Delaware Lake Shelter. Please contact the Friends to let us know you're coming at friendsoffortharrison@gmail.com

Ongoing - gardening and weeding. The Visitor Center and Front Gate garden need ongoing maintenance to prevent weeds from taking over. Please contact Karen for information at friendsoffortharrison@gmail.com

Thanks to all the volunteers who helped out at the park in June.
 


 
Tree ID Trail Maintenance
Thanks to all the volunteers who helped improve the Tree ID Trail on June 2nd.  Approximately 60 feet of trail was armored. Further improvements to this trail are planned, including tree identification signs. This project was coordinated with the annual National Trails Day event held on the first Saturday in June.


 

 
 
Delaware Lake Shelter Painting
On June 13th, Friends volunteers put a fresh coat of paint on the Delaware Lake Shelter and enjoyed an evening cookout after their hard work.
 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 
Junior Indiana Master Naturalist Class
The Junior Indiana Master Naturalist class was held from June 11th to 15th at the park and was open to children aged 8 to 12 yrs. As part of the class, the kids helped to build a new rain garden with the park naturalist staff.









 
Fourth of July Parade
Several member of the Friends joined park staff in the Lawrence Fourth of July parade. Much fun and candy tossing was had by all.


 

 

 

 


 

 

 


Fort Ben BBQ & Blues Festival
 
Join The Friends of Fort Harrison State Park on September 15th, 2018 for our Inaugural BBQ & BLUES FESTIVAL!
Food service begins at 12 pm. Food will be provided by Wild Boar BBQ & The Garrison Restaurant.

Music begins at 1 pm.

1:00 PM – 2:30 PM -- JOHN FORD 
3:00 PM – 4:30 PM -- BILL LANCTON & JIMMY DAVIS
5:00 PM – 7:00 PM -- KING BEE & the STINGERS 

The BBQ & Blues Festival will be held at the Cherry Tree Shelter & Parking Area. Parking will be available at Delaware Lake, Reddick and Sycamore Shelters.

Free event but State Park gate fee ($7.00 in state car load, $9.00 out of state car load) still applies. Bring a blanket or chairs to sit on.
