Seal the Loop Program Championed by Fishcare Volunteer Remy

Seal the Loop aims to prevent this material entering the environment at all, by installing brightly coloured bins in popular fishing spots for anglers to dispose their waste in. Fishcares involvement has been championed through one volunteer in particular who has data ranging back to 2010 regarding the amount of line, tackle and other litter placed in the Seal the loop bins. Remy shares his story and journey with the Seal the Loop program. Read More

Have you seen this weed?

If so, let the land manager know! Spartina is a rapidly spreading introduced grass species which was first introduced to stabilise estuarine mudflats, reclaim land and prevent shoreline erosion. Spartina, a declared noxious aquatic weed species, is now known to be a major environmental threat to estuaries, causing siltation and impacts on the biodiversity of native salt marsh and seagrass. It also affects the habitats of migratory bird species and near shore marine animals.

Statewide Recreational Fisheries Roundtable

The Statewide Recreational Fisheries Roundtable (SRFR) provides a forum for the exchange of ideas and the facilitation of interactions between leaders in the recreational fishing sector. It is a stakeholder’s forum, independently chaired and hosted by The Victorian Fisheries Authority. This forum is a fantastic platform for co-management of our recreational fisheries, bringing together various organisations and independent fishers who are invested in protecting our fishery resources.  Fishcare is represented at the forum and continues to advocate and collaborate with other organisations in regards to responsible fishing education across the state.  The SRFR are seeking applications for a Chairperson for the Statewide Recreational Fisheries Roundtable, you can learn more about the SRFR here.

Volunteer Profile

Allan Buller
Fishcare East Gippsland Member
Why do you volunteer for Fishcare?

"I just really enjoy it. Being a fisherman, I like teaching kids how to fish properly and handle fish. It's important for the whole ecosystem and to protect fish stocks. I always look forward to the training conferences. I like the fellowship and catching up with other volunteers, the different guest speakers sharing their knowledge, it's just a really good time." - Allan Buller
