1. MIDWEEK TRAINING JACK'S PADDOCK WEDNESDAY 1 AUGUST 2018
On Wednesday 1 August 2018 Orienteering SA will conduct training on the Jack's Paddock 1:10,000 map.

There will be one course of Hard orienteering standard of 4.2 km in length with 110m climb. Good gully/spur terrain to practice aiming-off and attack points.

Further details are per the OSA Program.

2. Marne Rocks OY event

Yalanga Orienteering Club will be running this event on Sunday, Aug. 5th.

Start times 10 A.M. to 12 noon. Course closure 1:30 P.M.

Come and enjoy this beautiful area of South Australia near Eden Valley. The country does look great! It's on private property so it's the only way to see it!

Your chance to earn OY points!

Most importantly, this area will be used for the South Australian Middle Distance Champs in October, so it's also your chance to practise for the type of event we will have on Keynes Gap later in the year. Steve Cooper is Course Setter for both events.

Entries are now open on Eventor. Actual course details are now available on the Eventor website (see Information flyer under Marne Rocks). Pre-entry is a good thing for you (assurance that a map of your chosen course will be available), and a good thing for us (it helps us order the optimal number of maps). Enter on the day is also available.

To be eligible for OY points, you must enter by Class (age groups or Open). If you would prefer to do a different course than the one for your age group, you can just enter by Course (numbered 1 to 5 for Hard, 6 to 7 for Moderate, 8 for Easy, and 9 for Very Easy. M for male, F for female or G for group).

Dogs are not allowed as it is a pastoral property and the owner has cattle on the relevant paddock we are going to use. Also, do not touch or climb over the stone walls. Please do not jeopardise our good will with the landowners.

Directions: From Mt. Pleasant, travel towards Eden Valley on the main Mt. Pleasant to Keyneton Rd. Turn right on Rhine Park Road, just after the Eden Valley Caravan Park which is a few kilometres before (south of) Eden Valley. Please drive with care on this gravel road. It has/had the wrong camber on some of the corners and a serious accident has occurred in the past.

Enquiries: Ruth Nicolson 8339 5247 or redmnico@ozemail.com.au

3. Saltbush Orienteers - Casuarina Ridge Interclub Event on Sunday 12th August

Entries for the Eyre Peninsula Interclub event (Saltbush and Lincoln) at Casuarina Ridge on 12th August are now open.  An entry form can be filled out and sent to the event secretary, John Paterson at johnep@ozemail.com.au  although he can also receive entries by text message, home or mobile phone.  The closure for entries is the 7th August.

Information, directions and entry form are on the Saltbush Orienteers website -  https://sa.orienteering.asn.au/clubs/saltbush

If you have any queries please contact John on (mob) 0478 624 765

4. SA Night Champs and SA Long Champs August 18th and 19th
On the weekend of 18th and 19th of August Orienteering SA have two events being held north of Burra.  Entries are now open on Eventor and will close on Tuesday 14th of August.  The events are about 2.5 to 3 hours north of Adelaide.  Continue north of Burra and turn right just after Whyte Yarcowie (follow signs to the respective events)
On the Saturday night the 2018 night championships will be held, with the Long Championships on the Sunday morning.
OHOC are hosting the Night Champs on Tundarri (used on day 2 of the 2015 Easter Carnival) with mallee coverage, complex creek systems, and few tracks.  The event will use the flatter eastern part of the map. Pre-entry for the listed classes is required, limited maps will be available for enter at the event.
Event details for the Night Championships are here:
https://eventor.orienteering.asn.au/Events/Show/6663
After the night event, the bush camping will be at the Bri-Glen camp ground
TT are hosting the Long Championships on Mulga Valley.  Event details are in Eventor here:
https://eventor.orienteering.asn.au/Events/Show/6656
Jeffa Lyon has set the courses for this event with assistance from other TT members with the site checking.  We are treating this as a last practice of a formal start routine before the 2018 National Carnival which SA are holding, so we will be having allocated start times and you can practice your 4 minute start routine. Start times will be published in advance. You will also need to allow for a walk to the start location. There will be limited Enter on the Day courses which will be available after the pre-entries have started.
Mulga Valley covers some beautiful Mallee country with complex drainage systems and steep erosion gullies and was used on the last day of Easter in 2015. Lots of SA orienteers have been looking forward to another chance of running on this stunning map. There will be a spectator leg and good viewing of the finish run in. There will be 8 Hard courses, 2 moderate courses, an easy and a very easy course available
SA Junior team will sell drinks and toasted sandwiches at the Mulga Valley event as a fundraiser.
For both events, please enter the course appropriate for your age and gender, to be included in OY and Badge (Long Championships only) results.
You can enter and pay for both events at the same time by selecting each event in the Eventor Calendar (https://eventor.orienteering.asn.au/Events), but please check the details and event fees under each event first at the event specific links above.

6. SCHOOLS INVITATIONAL TEAM CAMP, OCTOBER 1-7.

There's a special Camp at West Beach Caravan Park during the National Australian Orienteering Championships Carnival in October. All juniors aged 9-18, (Years 5-12) who are not in the SA Schools State Team, and their families, are invited!

You don't have to be great at orienteering to take part, as long as you like the sport and are keen to learn more. Join orienteers from NZ and other Australian States. Pick up new skills, make new friends and have lots of fun! It will be a school holiday to remember!

Take part in the Carnival events in the morning, then come back to the Camp for games, social activities and training sessions in the afternoons and evenings. You can come just for one day or stay for all 6 nights. A parent or guardian must be there with you.

If you choose to stay at the Camp, cost will be approx. $350 for accommodation, catered dinner, and DIY breakfast and lunch. Transport and Event entry fees are not included. Book early as costs will go up once the Bunkhouse is full (only 15 places left) and we have to start booking Cabins. Camp sites are also available at the Caravan Park if you wish to tent.

You can also choose to participate as a casual 'day' visitor. This will be free, but Caravan Park charges all day visitors a $5 'facilities fee', even if you don't use their swimming pool etc. If you wish to join us for dinner, cost is $15 per person, and you have to book ahead.
For more information or to register, contact Aylwin Lim, ayllim@netscape.net.
