Help us make sure your content is associated with the right organization

Recently, the Mass.gov team connected every piece of content with at least 1 Organization page. We need your help to make sure we’ve done this right.

If you author for more than 1 organization, search for your content by title and by organization in “My Content” in the CMS. If a page that should appear doesn’t, you can edit it and add the right organization to the Organization(s) field.

Here’s how:

Step 1: Log in to the CMS
Step 2: Click the “My content” tab at the top
Step 3: Filter for an organization you author for using the “organization” filter
Step 4: Scan the results to see if anything’s missing
Step 5: If content is missing, open it in “edit” mode and add the organization to the Organization(s) field (which is at the bottom of every content type)
Step 6: Repeat steps 3-6 for any other organizations you author for

Why this matters:

2 reasons. First, soon, you’ll see a new “Offered by” relationship indicator leading back to your Organization page. (Relationship indicators are the little rectangle links at the top left that lead to related content.) Whatever’s in Organization(s) determines which relationship indicator(s) each page gets. Help make sure we get it right.

Second, what’s in Organization(s) will be copied to other fields in the CMS if those fields are empty now—so it’s important that we copy the right information. Here are the other fields (and which content types you can find them in) that we’ll automatically fill:

  • Offered by field (Service page)
  • Organization field (Person item)
Get ready for directories

Within a week, you’ll be able to make a staff directory using a new Curated List subtype. You’ll add Contact Info and Person items to a Curated List, and you’ll choose how much/what type of information displays (e.g. just phone; phone and address; phone, email, and address, etc.)

If you’ve got a workaround staff directory (created on a Service Detail, for example), you might want to get ready to convert it.

You’ll need to make Contact Info or Person items for each listing. You might also review our guide on converting content types so that you don’t lose search engine ranking or create broken links.

Guide on converting from one content type to another
Did you know you can now add an alert to almost any content type?

You do if you’ve been following our release notes page! We do 2 releases a week, which include bug fixes, improvements, and more. Check every Wednesday and Friday to see what’s new.

First step toward a new author landing page

The page you land on when you first log in to the CMS is getting a new look. Eventually, you’ll see our latest release notes, help materials from our content author resource library, and more.

Our first change was a new view, “My Content,” which shows the content you edited last and the content you’re watching. If you’ve never “unwatched” anything, this view shows all the content you’ve ever worked on.

You can now choose a focal point on a Guide's banner image

Here’s a wicked cool new feature for your Guide pages: You can pick the focus of the banner image. Whatever you choose will stay in focus no matter what device or browser size your constituents use.

To play around with the focal point, open a Guide, find the little white crosshair in the Header image preview, and move it to where you want the focus to be.
