Staff Spotlight: Hispanic Heritage Month
Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated throughout the United States from September 15 through October 15 each year. The monthlong observance was instituted to recognize the contributions of Americans whose ancestors originated from Central and South America, the Caribbean, Mexico, and Spain. Libraries throughout the nation will display books by Hispanic authors, about Hispanic characters, and on Hispanic traditions. Take a look at our list to find el libro perfecto for you! And learn more about the history of the observance here.

Breaking Barriers, Building Connections
Libraries are often called the cornerstones of democracy, but cornerstones are not known for their ability to be flexible. Yet, today’s libraries are striving to find new ways to promote the foundational values that they’ve always championed: access, literacy, and community. Join librarians from the Erie County Public Library as they discuss how modern libraries are breaking down barriers, connecting patrons to technology and information in meaningful ways, and building a culture of participatory curiosity. This special lecture will be at the Jefferson Educational Society on Tuesday, September 11 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m, click here to register.
Test Prep Databases: TERC & ePrep
TERC - the Testing & Education Reference Center offers test preparation & practice exams for high school, college entrance, professional certification and licensing, military, and civil service. Peterson's ebooks are available as well as tools for Career Assessment, a Resume Builder and the Virtual Careers Library.

ePrep will help you improve your SAT, ACT, PSAT, and PLAN scores. Take practice tests under timed conditions, have them graded online, and immediately launch into video reviews.

TERC & ePrep are available to residents of Erie and Crawford Counties. A valid library card is required.  Find your local public library in Crawford or Erie County here.

Featured Program: Day of Enchantment
We are pleased to welcome Erie’s wizarding community to a Harry Potter celebration at Blasco Library! The magic will take place on Saturday, September 29 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Witches, wizards, and Muggles of all ages are invited to attend. Feel free to come dressed in your best robes—the International Confederation of Wizards has agreed to temporarily suspend the Statute of Secrecy in honor of the event.

The entire library will be enchanted and guests can attend a variety of Hogwarts classes, including: Divination, Charms, and Muggle Studies. You can also pay a visit to the Sorting Hat in the Great Hall, make your own wand in Ollivander’s Wand Workshop, see some live owls, and much more.

See you at Hogwarts!
