CHILDREN'S BOOK WEEK | 18 - 24 August 2018
Established in 1945, the Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA) is a not-for-profit, volunteer run organisation which aims to engage the community with literature for young Australians. The CBCA presents annual awards to books of literary merit, for outstanding contribution to Australian children's literature. Each year Whitehorse Manningham Libraries arrange a week long activates to celebrate book week. Join us and celebrate Children’s Book Week this August by attending one of our FREE events below.
Gabrielle Wang Helps Us Celebrate Book Week
Gabrielle's novels include The Garden of Empress Cassia, The Best of Hushing Wood, Little Paradise, and picture book The Race for the Chinese Zodiac. She is a contributing author and illustrator in the Our Australian Girl series. Gabrielle joins us to share her tips and tricks for writing and illustrating children’s books.

Jo Stanley Helps Us Celebrate Book Week
The Play Like a Girl series, created by Jo Stanley, is a celebration of Aussie girls kicking goals in the sport they love! This new series is proudly brought to you in partnership with the AFLW. Jo will share her tips and tricks developed while writing this ground-breaking new series.

David Astle Helps Us Celebrate Book Week
Self-confessed full-time word nerd, David Astle (or DA as he’s fondly known in word-nerd circles) is a crossword maker and the author of several books, including Wordburger: How to be a champion word puzzler in 20 quick bites! DA joins us to help celebrate Book Week, wordy trickery, puzzles, and all things word nerd.

2 - 3pm MEERKAT PRODUCTIONS presents a special live performance. Using music and puppetry they will bring to life a children’s book. Ages 5-10. Bookings essential.

2 - 4pm Lego ® free play and Giant games for families to play and enjoy - Jenga, Connect 4 and Chess. All ages. No bookings required.

Jane Clifton Shares her Desert Island Reads
Jane Clifton is an actress, singer, writer and registered marriage celebrant. Jane has also managed to carve out a five-decade-long show-business career. She has performed in stage roles, made Top 10 singles, written three crime novels and a memoir. Jane will always be best remembered for a role she played 40 years ago as Margot in Prisoner. Join us at Nunawading Library as we ask Jane what books have made and shaped her life, and those ones she would take to a desert island.

Bookings are essential for most library events, except regular children's programs i.e. storytimes, baby karaoke and lego. Bookings can be made through our events site, or by calling or dropping into one of our branches.
