IRRIGATION PROMO

Rain Sensors Installed @ Cost!

During this past rainy spring we have noticed that way too many irrigation systems are still on during the rain storms.  This is pet-peeve #200 for owner Michael Hiel.

In an effort to strive for water conversation, public education, and yes to calm down Mike, Gardenwerks will offer the first 100 irrigation customers a Hunter rain sensor shut off installed at cost. Please call or contact us by email before the end of August to get on the list to have the sensor installed during our Spring 2019 irrigation startup season. Thanks for your continued support.

PLANT SPOTLIGHT

Montana Natives

BIG-POD MARIPOSA LILY
Calochortus eurycarpus

Generally found on open slops, grasslands and forests across Southwest Montana, the Mariposa Lily is a beauty! Multiple fields are in full bloom along the Continental Divide Trail south of McDonald Pass.

The sweet bulb of this native plant can be enjoyed fresh or roasted, boiled or steamed. Look for the 6 other members of this genus throughout the state, all with slightly different three petaled flowers.

The tall stems of Alumroot rise above the brightly colored Sulphur Buckwheat on a sunny, east facing slope outside of Helena. What a great combo nature has provided. Give these plants well-drained soil and enjoy the beginning of your new native plant community.

ROUNDLEAF ALUMROOT
Heuchera cylindrica

SULPHUR BUCKWHEAT
Eriogonum umbellatum

Available in 1 Quart containers.

HANGING BASKETS

Tips & Tricks

Water:  It's amazing how thirsty hanging baskets can be this time of year, especially in a full sun location! Our rule is to water until it runs through the bottom...and two times a day is sometimes needed.
Fertilize:  Limited soil means less nutrients available, so make sure to apply fertilizer every few weeks throughout the summer. We like Dr. Earth Flower Girl-Liquid or Granular available.
Deadhead:  Yes, it's tedious but grab your coffee and head out in the cool morning for a few minutes. Your baskets will keep blooming right through the fall with a little extra attention.
