After Animinicon and Summer Reading we are slowing things down for August! Our regular programs (Alzheimer's Group, the Book Clubs, Color Me Calm, etc.) are still happening.
Voter Registration
7 August | 2-4pm and 4 September | 10-12 and 5:30-7:30pm
Staffed by the LaSalle County Deputy Registrars (Illinois Valley March to the Polls), voter registration is available at the Peru Public Library on August 7th from 2-4pm, and again on September 4th from 10am-12pm and 5:30-7:30pm
To register you must be 1) a U.S. citizen, 2) at least 18 years of age by Election day and 3) reside in your voting precinct at least 30 days prior to Election day. Bring two (2) forms of identification with at least one showing your current residence address.
Caregiver Stress
15 August | 1-2:30pm
Providing care for someone with memory loss can be a labor of love, but it can also be exhausting and stressful. This program introduces participants to the causes, signs,and symptoms of stress, and will provide participants with stress-reduction strategies
Caregiver Stress is presented by the Alzheimer's Association, Illinois Chapter. This program is 1.5 hours, which includes time for questions and answers. Registration is required. Call 815-223-0229, email perulibrary@perulibrary or stop by the library to register.

The Peru Library is part of PrairieCat, a group of 90 libraries with a combined catalog for easy sharing for patrons and libraries. Our catalog has over 4 million items, most available for borrowing by Peru patrons.
Use PrairieCat to search and request items to be held for you for convenient pickup. Once logged into your MyAccount with your library card number and PIN you can renew books, pay fines, place or cancel holds, and check your reading history. You can also arrange for text messages for holds and overdue material reminders. Activate your reading history to tracks everything you borrowed after the activation date.

Book Clubs for Everyone
We have book clubs for all ages from grade school and older.
Adult Book Club
Meeting the last Monday this evening group reads fiction with a few non-fiction tossed in. The August and September books are Lab Girl by Hope Jahren for August and The Secrets Of Wishtide by Kate Saunders for September. Discussion questions accompany each book.
20 & 30 Something
Originally started for 20 and 30 year-old adults, all ages are welcome. This Tuesday evening group reads teen and adult fiction.
The August and September books are The Chilbury Ladies’ Choir by Jennifer Ryan for August and The Almost Sisters by Joshilyn Jackson for September. Discussion questions posted on the group's Facebook page a few days before the groups meet.
Teens Talks Books
The teens read a variety of young adult books, most recently Ready Player One by Ernest Cline. Or they may reread Harry Potter. Check the Teens Talk Books page for next month's book.
Youth Book Clubs
Fall dates for the youth Book Clubs have not been determined, but prior books included Fairhaven, Harry Potter, and Percy Jackson. Contact Lynn Sheedy for information on the next youth book club

Last fiscal year, the dvd collection of 2,872 circulated 23,207 times and the audiobook and music collection of 3,284 circulated 4,766 times. Our books circulated 52,852 items. And you downloaded 4,835 ebooks and eaudiobooks through us.
