A Record-Breaking Summer

We're breaking records, and we don't mean the heat!  To date, we have 372 participants of all ages in our Summer Learning program, outpacing last year's record of 320. (In 2016, we had 139 participants.). At our author storytelling event on Wednesday, funded by a grant from the Children's Literacy Foundation (CLiF), we hosted 147 children, and sent each of them home with two free books to keep!  Circulation of library materials and library program attendance continue to be on the rise, but the true measure of how busy we are is how often we have to refill the paper towels... In the month of June, we had over 4,000 visits to the library, answered over 900 questions, logged over 800 sessions on our public computers, and hosted over 1,600 people at library programs. Your library team is tired but happy.  Even with over 20 volunteers, we need more help with cleaning and to provide oversight on our top floor, so please contact me if you'd like to help out.  Enjoy the rest of the beautiful summer, and thank you for enjoying your library.
Please feel free to contact me any time at jperrin@townofjaffrey.com.
Kind regards, Julie M. Perrin, Library Director - a.k.a. Ms. Julie

Don't miss these last events of Summer Learning!

Wizard Rock Party: Thursday, July 26 at 5:00 PM
This year marks the twentieth anniversary of Harry Potter’s book debut in the United States, and since the young wizard’s birthday falls at the end of the month, we are inviting Potter fans, young and old, to celebrate.
The celebration starts in Diagon Alley (in the library’s meeting room) where attendees can pick up supplies before taking the train to Hogwarts.  Pick up a new wand at Ollivander’s wand shop, or dress for success at Madam Malkins, and then have your photo taken at King’s Cross at the Hogwarts Express photo booth.  Head on to Hogwarts to be sorted into your Hogwarts house by the Sorting Hat. Enjoy Wizard Rock music and a host of party games – Try your hand at Wizard dueling or Pin the Lightning Bolt on Harry.   End the evening with a slice of Harry’s birthday cake!  Costumes are optional but feel free to come in your best Muggle or Wizard attire.

Wildlife Encounters Summer Learning Finale: Friday, August 3 at 6:30 PM
Calling all animal lovers! Wildlife Encounters is bringing exciting and exotic animals to the library lawn, some from North America and others from across the globe. Earn our “Wild Reader” achievement for reserved front row seats for up-close interaction.  We have several animals coming, and a special request for a wallaby if he is feeling up to the trip.  We'll also announce our grand prize winners for Summer Learning!
