5 things to be cheerful about this week...

Hello hello! I hope you had a good weekend. Ours was busy and as always, much of it was spent in the car (must remember to heed my own words about making the most of these car trips us country people seem to live between). But the big news from yesterday is that, we are now proud owners of a very sweet poddy calf called Milly, (I posted pics and a new recipe over on the blog last night). Nawwww, she's very cute.

Anyway, here below, as per every Monday, is a little list of five nice things to read, listen to, think about and be inspired by.

But first, I also wanted to say... I know many people living in the country are doing it tough at the moment and desperate for rain and change and understanding. We are, like many, spending countless hours and dollars feeding stock and it can really get you down. I'm not ignoring any of that, it's a daily reality for me and everyone in my community. So of course an email with a few links and recipes won't help - but a bit of light relief is always, well, a relief - and that's what I hope this newsletter brings.

What might properly help though, even just a little bit, is a visit to the
Centre for Rural and Remote Mental Health's website and a listen to their award-winning podcast Let's Talk. A fantastic resource for anyone finding the pressure of this drought extra heavy. Another good thing, if you are located in the Central West, is to head along to this day of talks on August 3 - The Things that Matter, sounds wonderful. I'd love to hear of any other resources, articles, people working in this space that would be worth reading and sharing so please send them through! Sophie x

These things to read
Eat in My Kitchen; a new (to me) blog and a total delight to read. I especially loved this post on Emiko Davies home in Florence (pictured above) and look forward to diving into the many more beautiful stories and recipes from all over the world. Also, very much enjoyed this article about JOMO (FOMO's nicer sibling; the joy of missing out). And this piece about what Sex and the City would look like in 2018 was a great read. And as always, a little visit to Fox's Lane always makes me feel warm and cosy and happy, this post in particular

Kimmy Hogan's art
I'm so happy to have just discovered Kimmy Hogan's beautiful digital fine art prints and have my eye on this one in particular for home. Isn't it gorgeous?

This collection of images
The 2018 National Geographic Travel Photography award results are in and the galleries of winners and people's choice selections are worth a lovely long look. Some incredibly beautiful images in here.

Ice cream inspiration
Parsley ice cream? Thanks to this episode of the Honey and Co podcast, have just discovered the world of Kitty Travers who makes small batch ice creams from her London ice creamery La Grotta ices. And am now feeling so inspired by her dedication to doing one thing well, and her brave flavour combinations and dedication to technique; parsley ice cream, peach and tomato sorbet and apricot custard ice creams. Off I go to order her book.

These cardamom sugar buns
Truly these look like absolute heaven to me - both the making and the sharing. And then I'll balance things out with a kichadi reset.
