III Jornadas Internacionales de Filosofía Medieval Estéticas en la Edad Media - De Agustín a Maquiavelo
http://centresderecerca.uab.cat/iem/node/980

Plato’s Parmenides
Paris, July 15th-20th 2019
The International Plato Society organizes a symposium on a single Platonic dialogue every three years. We are pleased to announce the Call for Papers for the XII Symposium Platonicum: Plato’s Parmenides. |
The Symposium will take place July 15–20, 2019, in Paris. Although the dialogue has been the object of intense scholarly scrutiny, many issues remain to be explored. Submissions on any aspect of the dialogue, including its presocratic sources as well as later reception, will be considered. We also would like to encourage papers that address issues in the dialogue’s second half since it has received relatively less attention. |
We welcome abstracts from all IPS members, full and associate. If you are not yet a member of the International Plato Society, criteria for membership and information about joining are available at: http://platosociety.org/membership/. |
If you intend to submit an abstract, please make sure that your IPS dues are paid for 2016–19 at least one week before making your submission. If you are unsure whether you are a member in good standing, check the status of your account on the website or send an e-mail to web@platosociety.org. |
All submissions must be received by September 30, 2018. Submitters will be notified of the Committee’s decision in January 2019. |
Your abstract should be 800–1200 words and written in any two of the Society’s five official languages (English, French, Italian, Spanish, or German). |

3-year PhD position in late medieval astronomy
ALFA is an ERC funded project (2017-2022, 60 month, Consolidator grant 2016 agreement 723085, PI Matthieu Husson) dedicated to the study of Alfonsine astronomy which flourished in Europe from the second half of the 13th century to the middle of the 16th century.
The successful candidate will work in Paris, within the framework of the ALFA project studying Alfonsine astronomy from the 13th through the 16th century (https://alfa.hypotheses.org/). They are especially seeking a good Latinist who could edit some of the canons and other miscellaneous texts that we’re finding in the 500+ manuscripts our team is examining. These texts, mostly anonymous or by completely unknown authors, are very important in illustrating how various local settings shaped the practice of tabular, mathematical astronomy.
Applications should be sent no later than May 31, 2018 to Matthieu Husson (matthieu.husson@obspm.fr). They shall include: a short CV (2 p. max), contact information for two possible externals referees (name, institution, email contact), a written sample of academic work (e.g. Master thesis and/or a recent paper), and a short letter of application (2 p. max). In the latter, the candidate should position him or herself with respect to the above briefly described potential topics for the PhD and/or should present an original topic that he or she could study within the context of ALFA’s general objectives.
Review of applications will start on June 1, 2018 and the result will be published on June 30, 2018. For further information you are warmly encouraged to contact Matthieu Husson (matthieu.husson@obspm.fr).
