Updated Consumer Booklet - Steps to enter an aged care home
The new booklet ‘Steps to enter an aged care home’ is designed for senior Australians, their families and carers, to help guide them through the process of accessing care in an aged care home. This replaces the ‘Five steps to entry into an aged care home’ booklet.
The booklet follows the consumer pathway from assessment through to receiving care in an aged care home. Information for consumers is also available on the My Aged Care website.
The booklet will be distributed by ACAT assessors to older people once they have been assessed for residential aged care services. It will also be a useful resource for approved providers and their staff.
Please exhaust any existing stock of 'Five steps to entry into an aged care home' as the information is still accurate.
The new booklet can be downloaded from the Department’s website, including translations in 18 languages. Hard copies of the English version are available at no cost from National Mailing and Marketing.

Home Care Package Update
Publishing home care package pricing information
In response to consumer feedback, the department is working to improve the transparency and comparability of home care pricing information.
Following a recent letter from the Minister for Aged Care, the Hon Ken Wyatt AM, MP, all home care providers are strongly encouraged to publish their existing pricing information through a PDF or website link on the My Aged Care Service Finder.
A Quick Reference Guide is available to support providers with this process.
The department is working with the sector to make further improvements to the My Aged Care Service Finder, to enable better comparability. Further information on these changes will be provided in the coming months.
