A Message from Pastor Fran
Where do you belong? To whom do you belong? The response to these two questions should reach much deeper into our soul than what we may consider to be the obvious. Where I should be each day is much easier to answer, as my schedule often reminds me or dictates to me the physical place to which I should arrive and for what purpose. As for answering to whom do I belong, I pause for just a moment to ponder, and then I realize the answer is always the same. I belong to God. Obvious response? No, not always. Sometimes the pause to ponder generates several options that have been influenced by the events, contacts, tasks, and my postured way for the day. In the end, I always come back to the same place of belonging – with God.

This past week at CUMC has been another week of remembering where and to whom we belong as we have worshiped at The Vine and in the traditional service, worshiped at the celebration of life for Dot Edwards and Marguerite Tompkins, played at the pool for children’s fellowship, gathered at First Baptist for ecumenical fellowship with our youth, broken bread in the CLC with the United Methodist Men, and have been continuously caring for one another in love – just to name a few.

There  are so many ways to know and grow in our belonging to God. If you want a genuine and authentic experience of belonging…come to CUMC!

Pastor Fran

Two Announcements for United Methodist Men

  • UMM will participate in a project to replace lights in several areas of the church with more efficient light fixtures designed to save electricity. Our first work day for light replacement will be Sunday, August 12. We will have a light lunch (no pun intended) after the 11:00 service and then work to install the new lights.
  • UMM will start a Bible study on Tuesday, August 28. We will meet from 7:00-8:00am. We will rotate locations among several restaurants. Our first meeting will be at McDonald’s. We will study the Acts of the Apostles. The plan is to meet to fellowship and study each Tuesday. A schedule including locations will be distributed soon.

Audio/Visual Volunteer Training
All current A/V volunteers and those interested in learning are invited to attend a training session Sunday, August 19 from 3:00-4:00pm in the Worship Center. Come learn to run sound, slides, and video or get a refresher. Contact Michael Redmond (michael@clemsonumc.org) to RSVP.

Confirmation Sign-Up
It’s time to sign up for confirmation! Confirmation is a time of discovery in which youth learn about our shared faith, UM history, and what it means to live a life of Christian service. We are currently putting together the confirmation class to begin this fall. Confirmation is open to all rising seventh graders and older. Contact Jim Morgan (jim@clemsonumc.org) for more information.

An Opportunity to Welcome the new District Superintendent
A district-wide welcoming service during which our new District Superintendent, Rev. Steve Patterson, Jr., will preach is scheduled for Sunday, July 29 at 3:00pm at St. John's United Methodist Church (515 South McDuffie Street in Anderson). Rev. Patterson comes to the Anderson District from Lyttleton Street UMC in Camden where he has served as senior minister since 2011. Following the service there will be a reception in the Fellowship Hall. You will not want to miss this opportunity to welcome Steve and his wife Debra to the Anderson District.

The church office will close at Noon on Fridays through August 3.
