The Leonardo Convening is the culminating event of our 50th anniversary. The event’s aim is to initiate a challenging, vital network-wide experience. The event is designed to bring together attendees from diverse disciplines and experiences. We want this event not only to celebrate 50 years of building our network but also to help us design where we want to be in the next 50 years. This will be both an outcome of design thinking and a sector manifesto.

Open Live-Stream Conversation on Performance and Biosystems
27 JULY 2018, 2:00 p.m. Uruguay Time/10:00 a.m. Pacific Standard Time

Join Leonardo and Anilla Cultural for a conversation on performance and biological systems, with presenting artists Nina Waisman (U.S.A.), Tiare Ribeaux (U.S.A.), Anna Dumitriu (U.K.) and Stelarc (Australia); moderated by Danielle Siembieda (U.S.A.). This program is organized by Anilla Cultural Latino América-Europa en Uruguay as part of the International Online Education leading to Leo50 in Uruguay. This will be interactive live-streamed virtual conference in English, Spanish and Portuguese.

IN-THE-MOMENT FIELD NOTES OF SCIENTIFIC DELIRIUM MADNESS RESIDENTS
What happens when artists and scientists come together for one month in the Santa Cruz mountains? The nature of generative systems, tracing lichens, landscape art, performance, color theory, literature, and more. This SDM residency is a collaborative initiative between Leonardo/ISAST and Djerassi Resident Artists Program. FOR ART AND TECH FROM SVCREATES

The annual SVLaureate program recognizes exceptional achievement in the arts and contributions to the cultural life of Silicon Valley. Since 1991, more than 150 artists have been honored through this program, receiving cash awards to celebrate and encourage their artistic work. laznia_logoThe LAZNIA Centre for Contemporary Art in Gdansk was one of the first public cultural institutions established in Poland after the transformations of 1989. LAZNIA is guided by its mission of showing and promoting contemporary art as a means of expressing universal values, and an element of world cultural heritage. The centre does so by showing the latest developments in contemporary art, showing the process of change that art is undergoing, engaging cultural and social phenomena taking place around the world, and educating the public about these issues by organizing of exhibitions, artistic exchanges, innovative educational programs, academic conferences, lectures, concerts and film screenings. ZHUANGSHI JOURNAL CONTENT AVAILABLE ON ARTECA
zhuangshi_coverThe special section of Zhuangshi’s March 2018 issue that commemorates Leonardo journal's 50th anniversary is now available to users of ARTECA, a joint project of Leonardo/ISAST and the MIT Press, which currently hosts the full catalog of back Leonardo issues. This special issue  includes articles selected from Leonardo's history as well as new essays by Leonardo Executive Editor Roger Malina and China advisor Kang Zhang. Zhuangshi, the Chinese Journal of Design, is published through Tsinghua University, Beijing, China. Find out more
RECOGNITION OF LEONARDO’S OUTSTANDING PEER REVIEWERS
In 2017 we commenced a quarterly recognition of exceptional peer reviewers in our network. This month, we extend our gratitude and congratulations to the following for their in-depth and deeply constructive feedback on papers under consideration for publication:
  • As Executive Director for Research at VCUarts and Director of the Arts Research Institute, Sarah Cunningham provides national and international leadership in arts research through individual scholarship, interdisciplinary collaboration, and research development.
  • Celina Jeffery is a curator and educator. She received a PhD in Art History and Theory from the University of Essex and is Associate Professor of Art History and Theory at the University of Ottawa, Canada.
  • Jesús Muñoz Morcillo is a classicist, art historian, and science communicator. He is currently a research fellow at ZAK and a lecturer at the Institut für Kunst und Baugeschichte at KIT.
  • Andrew Pepper is an artist working with holography, projected light and installation. He has exhibited his work in solo and group shows internationally and is a senior lecturer in fine art at Nottingham Trent University, U.K.
