Construction Grant Update
Hi Grant Writers! Thanks for submitting your Intent to Apply forms. We received 11 applications by the deadline. Some of these were missing contractor quotes or SHPO confirmations. Please get these to me ASAP; digital is best as I'm out of the office this week.
We will be in touch very soon to confirm the presentation schedule on July 28! We have some exciting projects this year (and some boring-but-critical ones too) and the board is looking forward to learning about them!
Olean Newspapers Online!
Funded by an RBDB grant from WNYLRC, Olean has completed the digitization and upload five historical newspaper collections. This is a great addition to the Chautauqua and Cattaraugus collections on NY Historic Newspapers.

THURSDAY, July 26, 2018 @ 9:00 am – 4:00 pm Back-end Web Development With PHP, taught by Jim Gerland: This session will be an introduction to the PHP language including programming concepts. Students will learn about variables, arrays, functions, conditional statements, and looping structures. PHP can be embedded in an HTML file to provide interactivity with a back-end server for database and file access.
Knowledge of HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript is recommended.
We do have limited number of laptops for use, but you may want to bring your own. You mustinstall the necessary software before attending this class. It will take about 30-45 minutes to do so. Here are Jim's instructions for installation: http://jimgerland.com/phpguide/ch02.php?ver=ub
TUESDAY, JULY 31, 2018 @ 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm Vintage Game Night at the Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural Site: Join us for a vintage game night at the Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural Site! THURSDAY, AUGUST 2, 2018 @ 9:00 am – 4:00 pm Back-end Web Development With MySQL, taught by Jim Gerland: This session will be an introduction to database concepts using MySQL. Students will learn how to take data from an HTML form and use the SQL (Structured Query Language) statements in their PHP code to insert and retrieve database information and display that data on a web page.

TUESDAY, AUGUST 28, 2018 @ 9:30 am – 11:30 am Writing RBDB Grants Effectively, with Sheryl Knab and Heidi Ziemer: NY Heritage or NYS Historic Newspapers. Do you want to create online finding aids for your collections? Has a staff member developed an idea for a new service that uses social media tools? Projects such as these are candidates for possible grant funding through the Regional Bibliographic Data Bases and Interlibrary Resources Sharing Program (RBDB). If you have never written an RBDB grant or if you want to learn some tips and tricks, please join us for this brief informational program that will provide an overview of the grant process as well as provide suggestions for writing the best possible grant proposal.

The purpose of INTERSECT is to facilitate a culture of co-learning among librarians and other interested professionals in the region by bringing people together to network and share ideas in an interactive, engaging, informal setting where participants determine the content.

Hi Everyone!
I am still scheduling coverage for our tables at the Chautauqua County Fair in Dunkirk, beginning on Monday 7/16/18 and going through Sunday 7/22/18. I thank those who have come forward to volunteer. However, I have a lot of no coverage slots. Please consider covering a 2 hour shift. You will receive a day pass and parking pass, and if you bring a child along, and submit a receipt to me, you will reimbursed for your child being at the fair with you. Also remember, this is a good time to bring your fliers, calendars, bookmarks, promo items, etc. to give out and talk to the people of Chautauqua County (and beyond – we do get visitors from other areas) about your individual library!!! J The best advertising up here in WNY in word of mouth! J
