Summer is a relatively quiet time on campus, but the Center is hard at work in preparation for a new year of arts events in the gallery and around campus.
New on Campus

We are very excited to have newly installed stained glass in the stairwell of the Kresge Academic Center. The glass was originally crafted by a much-loved former member of Wesley’s faculty. Dr. Laurence Hull Stookey taught preaching and worship from 1973 to 2007. His influence extends beyond Wesley to the shaping of worship for the United Methodist Church as a whole. Though his professional work was in the shaping of words for liturgy and preaching, Stookey had a deep love of the arts. He originally made the panels for the Oxnam Chapel. The free standing frame was removed when Oxnam Chapel was renovated in 2010. Dr. Stookey passed in 2016. We are delighted to have found a permanent home for his window to preserve Dr. Stookey's work for the ages. However, we still need funds to complete the work. If you are interested in supporting this project, you can make gifts online at https://www.wesleyseminary.edu/support/give-now/ designating it to the Luce Center for Arts & Religion and making the gift in memory of Dr. Stookey (that will help us make sure the gift goes to the right effort!). Or you can mail a check to the seminary, attention: Stookey Glass.

Thanks for helping us install this beautiful work on campus!

The support structures for the work have arrived in the studio and will be prepared for the community to help paint through the fall semester.
