News from Peedie Kirk.................

The Peedie Kirk was delighted to welcome visitors from two URC 'United'

Churches in Edinburgh. Max & Sandra Allen from Morningside United and Tamsin Kilgour from Augustine United. They were independently visiting Orkney by chance the same weekend and both were warmly welcomed by members of the Peedie Kirk at morning worship on June 17th.

Unfortunately  none of the visitors were due to be still in Orkney and were therefore unable to join the Peedie Kirk's annual outing the following Friday.
SS Empire Windrush

After a service marking the 70th Anniversary of the SS Empire Windrush, members and visitors to Morison Memorial URC watched the Clyebank premier of the URC-produced film "Longing to Belong", executive producer Michael Jagessar and featuring Scottish College graduate Nadene Snyman. It engendered great conversations afterward.

News from Rutherglen URC..................

Twenty Years of Ministry in Rutherglen

On Sunday June 24th, members and friends of Rutherglen United Reformed Church celebrated the twentieth anniversary of their minister John Sanderson in a special all age service and a lunch party.
The Church was busy for what was a really special service of thanksgiving and celebration.

The congregation enjoyed the service led by John and Susan Henderson our student minister.
A band made up of some young people from the church led the congregation in a great rendition of My Lighthouse.
After the annual presentation of books to the young people of the church who attend our various church groups, Rob Miller representing the Deacons Court presented John with a beautiful silver Quaich.

After the service many members and friends made their way to the Burnside Hotel for a celebratory lunch.

The sun shone as Jamie Wallace a church member piped John and the guests into the hotel for what was an afternoon of good food, fun and laughter.
Paul Howard the Church President, Revd Dr David Pickering the URC Synod of Scotland Moderator and Deacon Mill McMillan from St Columbkille’s church all spoke warmly of the tireless work which John has devoted to the church itself as well as his community work particularly with the Rutherglen and Cambuslang Foodbank and the special relation he has developed with the staff and pupils of Rutherglen High.
Graham Templeton the Session Clerk shared a PowerPoint which reminded everyone of many key moments from John’s twenty year Ministry.  Laughter filled the function suite as people were reminded of some of John’s classic Christmas performances!!
Irene Hudson from the Deacons Court presented John with a ‘This is Your Life’ folder and vouchers which had been purchased as a gift from the members and friends of Rutherglen URC.
John’s mum, his wife Lindsey and daughter Hannah and Morven all received beautiful flowers.
John thanked members, friends and invited guest for attending his special celebration.

A well deserved celebration for a much love minister.
