Supporting staff and students to achieve their full potential

Abdi Omar, our Communication Work 2018 opening speaker

Communication Works 2018

What a spectacular event to help us celebrate the 50 years of CENMAC!

We heard an inspiring and brilliant opening speech from Abdi, saw an amazing range of existing and new Assistive Technology and saw lots of interesting presentations and seminars.

We were particularly proud of our students who took on the challenge of speaking in front of an audience. It was an extremely memorable day, so thank you to everyone involved including companies, visitors, our staff and especially our students.

Watch out for our film 50 years of Assistive Technology which will be released later in the year and will feature lots from Communication Works 2018.

Good bye to Kevin, our CENMAC Advisory Teacher

We are very sorry to be saying goodbye to Kevin after 9 years at CENMAC.  Kevin is a very experienced advisory teacher who came to us after working in special schools, as an advisory teacher for Hounslow and as training manager for Crick Software.  His expertise in Clicker has been invaluable in developing our training.  He has been a very laid back and good-humoured member of the CENMAC team and we will miss him.
We wish him good luck in whatever he chooses to do in the future and many more hours to enjoy his cycling!

Vacancy
CENMAC - Advisory Teacher
for Assistive Technology in Education

At Charlton Park Academy we pride ourselves on the quality of education we provide for our students and the opportunities we create to encourage and develop their communication and independence skills.

We are seeking to recruit a talented teacher who is collaborative, flexible, friendly and a highly motivated team player to support and develop our Assistive Technology Advisory Service CENMAC. A strategic and independent thinker is required to help us continue to improve our advisory service.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a passion and vision for raising the outcomes for students and supporting schools in creating inclusive environments. Someone who is innovative, has a high level of technical skill and enjoys empowering and upskilling others would be ideal.

CASE STUDY

CENMAC recently worked with the Wandsworth Vision Support Service to provide equipment for a student (student O) at Bolingbroke Academy.

After a joint assessment, it was agreed that student O would use the CoWriter 7 word prediction software to support written recording and a Prodigi Connect 12 electronic magnifier. This device allows student O to capture images, magnify documents and have text read aloud using the text-to-speech function. It also has a distance camera that enables student O to view, for example, the content of an interactive whiteboard or a science demonstration on his screen. The student has control over what they sees and can capture images to look at afterwards.
