Is your Business Waste Aware?

Every business, no matter how big or small - in commercial units or based at home - produce rubbish.

Business rates do not include waste collection and it is against the law for a business to dispose of rubbish or recycling through services for households.

National media has recently highlighted a number of firms who have received large fines due to use of domestic bins and other illegal disposal - so to support local businesses to understand the law and your obligations (including record keeping), the Council has produced an webpage, Business waste and the Law

In addition, High Peak Borough Council run a commercial waste and recycling collection service for business. This is a pay-for service, with the cost depending on the type and quantity of waste you produce. It is also cheaper to recycle. Businesses can choose frequency of collections using a variety of bin sizes and can arrange for both general rubbish and collections for a wide range of recyclable products.
