Diversity Immersion Institute now underway

Pre-college students from underserved communities are participating this week in an institute also designed to build professional skills of future librarians. The high school students will learn about technology, library resources, and the campus itself.

Founder and librarian Tahirah Akbar-Williams says her goal is to "build a community that embraces and empowers us all."

Prange Collection helps tell the story of U.S.-Japan baseball

Celebrate this week's MLB All-Star game by viewing an exhibition presented in collaboration with the Japan Information & Culture Center, Embassy of Japan. The exhibition explores the bonds between the U.S. and Japan forged through baseball.

Featuring items from UMD's renowned Prange Collection, the exhibition runs through August 10 at the JICC, Embassy of Japan, 1150 18th Street, Washington, D.C.

A new look for McKeldin Library's first floor

Stripped nearly bare, the first floor of McKeldin Library received significant upgrades this summer, including the addition of electrical outlets to accommodate an increasing number of students' mobile devices.

New carpeting and vinyl flooring, new transparent stairwell doors, and a paint scheme decidedly Maryland-inspired create a welcoming environment for new and returning students this fall.
