Plastic Ban Spreading Through Mexico! The state congress of Jalisco plans to approve a bill that will ban the use of plastic straws, bags, and even Styrofoam throughout the whole Jalisco region in order to prevent further environmental damage due to the use of these products. This bill will first be put into action starting January 1st, 2019. This news comes shortly after word that Punta De Mita residents have been working hard on a movement called the "Punta De Mita Project", which has aimed to reduce the use of single use plastic in stores and shops. As a result, 90% of Punta De Mita store owners have successfully stopped using plastic bags and they instead provide customers with reusable canvas shopping bags. Maybe this bill in Jalisco and Punta De Mita's example will help inspire Sayulita to become 100% plastic free, too! Sayulita has progressed toward a plastic free pueblo with initiatives like the recycle pick-up bins and restaurants which have gone straw free. However, we still have a ways to go to get all stores and businesses on board with a 100% plastic free lifestyle. Sayulita cares about our beaches and our environment; we can take the next step and follow our neighbors' examples.
