Featured Art Documentary/Movie:

Loving Vincent

This movie uses animation and the paintings by Vincent Van Gogh to tell his life story.  You can watch it on Netflix or on demand. Highly recommended!

News from the Studio

It has been a while since my last newsletter.  In January I wrote to you stating that the future was bright here at Caprice Fine Art & Co.   Life has a way of occasionally going sideways, as soon after I wrote those words I was diagnosed with cancer.  As a result, I have taken some time off from my art business and focused on my healing.  It was difficult to be away from my painting and I truly missed my paintbrush.  My strength is now slowly returning and so is my inspiration.  I haven't painted in ages but I am finally feeling the pull back to the easel.  I wanted to take my time before going public with my health issues but I am nearing the end of my treatment and am happy to say things are looking good!  I am grateful to have a wonderful support system around me.  My friends and family have pulled me through these past months and I count my blessings everyday.  Fortunately, while I was physically unable to paint, I have continued working on writing projects and teaching.  No matter what, creativity never ceases.

My love for art never ceases either.  To celebrate the end of chemo therapy, my friend Christine and I flew to Vancouver in June to take in the Bryan Adams concert.  While in the city, we had the great pleasure of going to the “Definately Dali” exhibit at the Chali-Rosso Art Gallery.  It was an experience I will never forget!    Can you believe it?  DALI!!
Enjoying the "Definitely Dali" exhibit in Vancouver.

New Painting

While I haven’t had the stamina to paint recently, just prior to my diagnosis I finished this painting of Mause Creek from the Tanglefoot area.  I always enjoy painting rushing water especially with the lush green moss colors on the rocks.  This painting is available for sale.  Please click on the photo for more information.

'Mause Creek', 24"X18", oil on canvas, available for sale from www.capriceartstudio.com

Art Lessons

Over these past months I have continued to teach two art lessons every week.  I have the best students and I appreciate their patience and support.  They kept coming to class even when I wasn’t physically at my best.  Fortunately I could still talk art and was able to keep them in line when they were misbehaving!  We’ve had a lot of fun together.  My mini art classes continue throughout the summer here at Caprice Fine Art & Co Studio Gallery.  Currently they run on Tuesday evenings and Sunday afternoons.  Each class is limited to 4 students and the cost is $25/class.  You are welcome to join us for as few or as many lessons as you would like.  Please send me an email if you would like to register.

Painting from the Vault!

I recently took a road trip to Fernie, BC.  I went to a fabulous art exhibition at the Fernie Museum and also took a drive up to Island Lake to photograph the large cedar trees.  My last visit to Island Lake was in 2003 and that trip inspired several paintings including this one:

'UP Close & Personal', oil on canvas, 36"X24", private collection, Kimberley, BC

Book of the Month

The Muralist
by B. A. Shapiro
This is a historical novel based during the 1930’s, just prior to World War II.  It portrays the time during the development of the Abstract Expressionists in New York City before they were famous (Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, Lee Krasner, etc).  It is a riveting read.
