Building Community Resilience

Lateral  (LTRL) have been commissioned by Harrow Council to design a prototype adult care model based on community capacity. This is an important outcome of the VCS review which was published in March this year.

Some of you may have already had an opportunity to meet with Lateral. If you have not,  Lateral helps organisations with innovation, change and transformation through people, using collaborative processes to co-create with a range of stakeholders and their involvement is focussed on “Building Community Resilience with the Voluntary Community Sector and Citizens”.

This is in response to the transformation of Adult Social Care which seeks to utilise community assets, strengthen local networks and integrative pathways and give better access to community resources.

Lateral’s involvement started on 19th June at a kick-off event at the Jaspar Centre and this was followed by a series of conversations and interactions with community organisations, citizens, Council and CCG representatives. This first phase was called ‘EXPLORE’.

The next phase in Lateral’s approach is called ‘BUILD’ and this kicks-off on Thursday 19th July 2018. Lateral will base themselves at the Bridge Day Centre in Harrow, (next to the Harrow Leisure Centre)  and set up a live workspace called the ‘Lateral Room’. To find out more and book onto these email Mario.Casiero@harrow.gov.uk.

During BUILD the focus will be to prepare the context upon which the opportunities will then be developed during the DISTIL phase, from 25th July – 27th July.

VCS Forum members are particularly invited to attend on the afternoon of Wednesday 25th July, but may participate in other sessions if more convenient.

This session will take place between
2pm4pm (Informal) and/or 4-5pm (Review Session).

The ‘BUILD’ days comprise the following sessions:

10am to 1 pm – Builders co-production session, to build the content of the room, participants for these sessions volunteered during the EXPLORE phase. If you wish to find out more about getting involved in this session please do get in touch.

2pm to 4pm – Experts co-production sessions. These sessions are open for stakeholders and  across the community sector to input to further build out work that has been mapped out so far in the Lateral Room.

4pm to 5pm – Playback session - This final slot of the day is an opportunity for senior stakeholders (e.g. chief executives and representatives from organisations) to understand the process and story so far....

Each of these sessions allow the room content be both developed and the ideas built upon  throughout the process.

Conversations and contributions are welcome.
