Curtin Education Community 
With thanks to the WA Department of Education, PIEFA recently presented 'Hungry and Naked: A world without food and fibre production' at the Curtin Education Community 2018 Leading2Learn Conference communal teacher professional development day.
Win GTAV Conference registration
Win one of two registrations to the Geography Teachers' Association of Victoria (GTAV) Conference. How to enter:
1. Be creative and take a snap! Use a photo or collage of photos to show how PIEFA resources are used in your classroom.
2. Provide a title and a 50 word description.
3. Edit your image or make a collage.
4. Email your submission to office@piefa.edu.au by 25 July 2018.
Winners announced 1 August 2018 and preference will be given to rural and regional applications. Prize includes conference registration only.

Salmon - growing a leaper:
Years 5 and 6, Science

This unit will focus on farmed salmon and provide students with content to explore how living things have structural features and adaptations that help them to survive.

Online agricultural careers expo 
On 14 August 2018 RuralBiz Training is hosting an Online Agricultural Careers Expo designed for agriculture teachers and students from Years 11 and 12 to find out about careers and salaries as well as pathways to agricultural education. REGISTER NOW
AWiA conference scholarship
Australian Women In Agriculture (AWiA) 2018 has seven student scholarships available to young women studying an undergraduate qualification in an agriculture or related course to cover their cost of attendance at the AWiA national conference in August. Applications close 22 July 2018.

The National Farmers’ Federation (NFF), with the Australian Rural Leadership Foundation (ARLF), invites people interested in a playing a leading role in agriculture’s vibrant and prosperous future to apply for the NFF 2030 Leaders Program. Applications close 31 July 2018. FIND OUT MORE

Cows Create Careers at Tocal
Following completion of the Dairy Australia farm module 'Cows Create Careers' students from across the Hunter Valley region attended a presentation day at Tocal College. This program allows farmers to tell students about their experiences in the industry and support students with their learning. FIND OUT MORE
Primary and secondary farm days
The Royal Agricultural Society of NSW is hosting hands-on curriculum based farm days in August for Years 3 to 8 at Sydney Showground with workshops that are fun, easy and interactive. Students will explore the origin of food and fibre and work with farm animals. FIND OUT MORE
Cast a vote for Australia's best fish and chips
The Fisheries Research and Development Corporation and Assistant Minister for Agriculture and Water Resources, Senator Anne Ruston are looking for Australia's best fish and chips and want you to cast your vote.

NAAE NEWS

WA primary industries educators tour
The Agricultural Educators Association of WA and Teachmeet WA have teamed up to take educators on a tour this August, immersing them in opportunities to use natural fibres such as wool, timber, cotton and hemp in their delivery of the WA food and fibre and science curriculum. Interest has been strong so the initiative will definitely be repeated periodically. For further information email Alysia Kepert.

From Paddock to Plate Education
From Paddock to Plate (FP2P) includes more than 500 online resources that bring commercial agriculture into high school classrooms for Years 7 to 10. Receive a 10 per cent discount using the code ‘FP2P10’ by signing up for a 12 month subscription before 31 August 2018. FIND OUT MORE
Pilot primary agriculture education program in WA wraps up
The new WA Department of Education pilot Primary Extension and Challenge (PEAC) program saw 17 talented students from Years 5 and 6 participate in a 16-week program. Upon completion each student presented a project to the Hon. Darren West MLC, (representing the Minister for Regional Development, Agriculture and Food, the Hon. Alannah MacTiernan) and other guests. The PEAC program has attracted lots of interest and there are plans in place to develop more programs in 2019. FIND OUT MORE
Youth off the streets and onto the farm
Each year the Archibull Prize engages with a wide range of students and teachers and this year The Lakes College (TLC) from the NSW Central Coast has joined the program to study the beef industry. TLC is a small alternate high school for Years 9 and 10 and is part of Father Chris Riley’s Youth Off The Streets program. The school only opened in 2017, which makes this Archibull journey extra special and with 5 staff members and 24 students everyone is involved. READ MORE

Spirit of Grains competition
To celebrate its 60th anniversary, GrainGrowers is holding a competition for children aged between 5 and 18 to celebrate their family’s grain farming heritage and life on a modern grain farm. Entries close on 17 September 2018.
