Giving Sunnyville Stories a facelift

We have had quite a week.  I am out of the rut that I was in last time and now I'm back on track.  I've also given this some thought and I've come to a big decision about Sunnyville Stories.

Starting next year in 2019 with Sunnyville Stories #18, the comic book will go to a standard comic book size instead of the magazine size that I've done from day 1.

That is the only thing changing.  Nothing will change about Sunnyville itself.  Rusty and Sam will still be there.  The whole cast will still be there.  The stories planned years ago will still be written and drawn.

This announcement will be officially made on the blog at a later time.  But you heard it here first on the mailing list.  My reasons for this?  Printing Sunnyville comics is expensive and the price on individual issues is staggering.  This may be discouraging people from giving my work a chance and that hurts me in the long run.  Recently, Peter Simeti (founder of Alterna Comics) has unveiled a printing service used for the Alterna newsprint comics line (check them out if you haven't yet, especially Mr. Crypt).  For a better price than what I pay now, I can print about 500 copies and sell them for much cheaper - about US$1.50 each.  Compared to what I charge now for individual comics and what the mainstream publishers charge, that's not only a bargain but a way I can get more people to buy and read Sunnyville Stories.

To help fund these printings, I plan to sell advertising space on the pages, not unlike what Alterna Comics is doing with their newsprint line.  I will also keep having Kickstarter drives to fund the comics.  I'll have more details on that when the time comes.

Some of you wonder what this means for the Sunnyville trade paperbacks.  At this time, I'll continue to sell Sunnyville volumes 1, 2 and 3 both as books and electronic format.  In the long run, I haven't decided what to do.  I do eventually want to go ahead with my plans of 10 trade paperbacks but I'll need time to build up enough fans and generate enough of a fanbase.

That sounds like a tall order for me, Rusty and Sam, doesn't it?  I feel I am up to the challenge though.  I am counting on all you fans to keep reading and keep supporting the Sunnyville crew.

That's it for now.  Until next time, Sunnyville readers!
