ST FRANCIS XAVIER SCHOOL
Principal's Message

Thank you to everyone for attending school interviews this week. If you missed the opportunity please contact your child's teacher. These opportunities are so valuable in building home/school partnerships.

Next week the school is closed for two days. I apologise for the timing as I know this is inconvenient for parents, however, the COL Professional Development Day has been months in the planning and we were unable to change the date . The timing of having both days in the same week is extremely unfortunate and we really appreciate your support.

On Wednesday the teachers across NZ go on strike and school is closed.

We are also closed on Friday for the COL Professional Development Day.

TEACHER ONLY DAY – FRIDAY 17 th AUGUST

Late 2016 the Dunedin Catholic Schools Kāhui Ako (Community of Learning) was approved by the Ministry of Education – the first in Dunedin! We are a community strengthened by our faith and united for excellence and equity.

We firmly believe that when we work collaboratively we:
  • Strengthen our Catholic special character
  • Enhance the wellbeing and pastoral care of all our young people, whānau and staff
  • Can more efficiently implement systems, programmes and initiatives, in order to strengthen student outcomes.
On Friday 17 August all the teaching and support staff in all our Catholic Schools are gathering at Kavanagh College for a day of high quality, targeted professional learning. This will mean that schools will be closed for the day, but will be open for one extra day in Term 4.

We would like to extend an invitation to all our parents to the first session of the Expo.

Where: Kavanagh College Auditorium
When: 8.45 - 10.30 am
Who: Marcus Akuhata-Brown

Marcus will stimulate, entertain and inspire you with his powerful message and creative style of delivery. He tells of how glass lids of low expectation and achievement were lifted off his life, and how, through positive encouragement, intuitive goal setting, as well as having the courage to break out of comfort zones, led to a life of excitement, adventure and purpose.

If you have any problems or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me. My door is always open.

Regards

Carmel Jolly

At St Francis Xavier we are so very lucky to have such an amazing PTA.  They work tirelessly for the school  organising events to raise funds for the school.  It is all done without a fuss and with a smile.  When you support a PTA event you are supporting the school. We are a small school, but we have a big heart so thank you to everyone.  The extra things that the PTA provide are really appreciated.

This year they have donated $9,344.93 to the school.  They have supported the Family Group Picnics at the start of the year, a TV and Chromecast for every room, Wee Kids Wednesday T Shirts, Cubbies for the Library, Portable Sound System and Rainbow Pens.  We are also in the process of buying a new computer for the library.

Thank you so much to everyone who brought along donations for the Quiz night.  You were extremely generous and the the raffles on the night will be fantastic so bring along some spare cash.  Have you entered a team? If not please contact Lana on 027 222 9211 or email her on phil.lana85@gmail.com.

When Things Go Wrong...

Go again. Try harder. Say, "Please help me". Say, "I can't do this yet". Try and try.

This is to ensure your experience of the St Francis Xavier Primary School App is smooth and seamless.

When you next open the school app there is a prompt which asks you to tap on the link to take you to the new and updated version of the Skool Loop app.

Please click on this link and download the new version of the Skool Loop App. Choose our region and school and the app will automatically stay on the St Francis Xavier Primary School app.

Once this has been done please delete the old version of the Skool Loop App off your phone.’
