Message from the Board Chair
Welcome back to all our families following the winter break, hope you are all managing to stay warm! Semester 2, term 3 promises to be another busy and exciting time at school.
Building on from my message in the May Deakin Digest, I’d like to thank all those families that have already paid their voluntary contributions. These make a real difference to the students as they provide for resources for each subject as well as contributing to a better physical environment and learning spaces. For example, in May I reported that funds derived from voluntary contributions enabled fresh painting and carpeting to the music mezzanine level; this semester we hope to furnish this space through the support of voluntary contributions.
At this time, around a third of all Alfred Deakin families have made these contributions.
Your family will shortly receive the invoice for the remainder of the financial year and I’d like to take this opportunity to explain it in a little more detail. The invoice is specific to your student(s), including items that are unique to their year group and choice of electives.
Your invoices will include:
- Any unpaid costs from Semester one, including Voluntary Contributions and Library Trust. ( This year we request that families contribute $50 to the library trust which is tax deductible (you can pay more or less than this suggested amount of course).
- All Semester 2 Subject Costs (for both electives and core curriculum subjects)
- Payment for Mathspace which every child uses - this is costed at $10 per student and the school pays the other $10.
For Year 7 and 8 students only (in addition to the above):
- Year 7 & 8 Students are charged for Language Perfect $30
- Year 7 students are charged for Text Book Hire $50.00 and $10.00 Library Text (some families may have already paid this and if so this will show as paid on your invoice)
Again, thank you to those families that have already made the voluntary contributions payments. Flexible payment plans over the school year can be arranged if this is best for you.
The Board continues to look forward to working in partnership with the school community over the coming year.
