‘Inspiring Communities Shaping Our Services’

Consultation on the Housing Executive draft Community Involvement Strategy 2018-2023

The Housing Executive is commencing a 12 week consultation process for the draft Community Involvement Strategy 2018-2023. The purpose of this consultation is to give you the opportunity to make comment and observations on the strategy as published.
In the introduction, the Strategy asserts that…”tenant participation and community involvement is embedded in the way the Housing Executive delivers services we are committed to ensuring we engage with our customers in a way that suits them. We want to hear all our customers’ views and opinions first hand and we feel this new strategy provides the framework to allow this to happen”.

The Strategy therefore aims to promote community involvement across all its’ communities and enable communities to challenge, influence and shape the delivery of housing services.
The Housing Executive is keen to hear from stakeholders as those opinions, views and comments are valued and will shape the direction of travel for the Community Involvement Strategy over the next 5 years.

In welcoming the Strategy, Linda Watson (Chair of the Central Housing Forum) commented, “Getting involved with your local community and the Housing Executive has many benefits such as gaining new skills, meeting new people and working together to make positive changes that could potentially change how Government deliver their services in your area, together we can make a difference.”

In encouraging people to respond to the consultation, Colm McDaid, Supporting Communities Chief Executive, said “I would encourage people to engage in this consultation; it is important that we continue to find the most appropriate ways to engage with communities and encourage participation.”

ANNUAL RAFT RACE AT COUNTY ANTRIM YACHT CLUB

RNLI is the main charity of County Antrim Yacht Club in Whitehead and, over the years, tens of thousands of pounds has been raised for the RNLI through the efforts of Club volunteers organising and running Raft Race day.
Originally comprising of a junior and senior raft races, this has now evolved into a much bigger event including a long distance swim, junior and senior raft races, kayak races and the latest addition, coastal rowing races.

This year’s Raft Race was due to be held on Saturday 28th July, but atrocious weather meant postponement. Not wishing to break the thirty year plus tradition of holding this event it was promptly re-scheduled and run the next day.

After the racing a Certificate of Commendation from the RNLI was presented to the Club’s Commodore, Paul Abraham by Freda Robinson, Chair of the Carrickfergus & Whitehead RNLI Fundraising Group, in recognition of the valuable contribution made annually by the Club. Also pictured are Richard Todd, CAYC Vice Commodore, and Noel Lamont, RNLI fundraising volunteer.

Thanks to everyone for your efforts.

Regards
Des Nixon
Rear Commodore
