Newsletter 021: September 2018

It's been a busy few months since our last Newsletter in June. GDPR implementation seems to have gone well, we're working with the last few centres to get them up and running on the database, we've had an AGM with personnel changes, got in place a brilliant Coach Development Team who will roll out our new-style inductions, and have set up two not-to-be-missed Technical Advisor workshops for those interested in finding out about the role, as well as for existing TAs who want a chance to build further on their skills and knowledge. Read more below...
AGM Debrief
We said goodbye to two of our Trustees at our AGM in July: our Chair John Roberts, who was elected as Vice President of the BMC in late June, and John Dunne. John Dunne (Climbing Centre Group) has been involved with us for many years, most recently as the ABC-appointed Trustee, and we are grateful for all his input. He has been replaced by Lee Browning from The Boardroom, a NICAS and NIBAS Primary Centre. Welcome to Lee.

We will be opening a recruitment process for the vacancy left by John Roberts, and in the meantime are in conversation with the BMC to see if John might fulfil our BMC Observer role on our Board, consolidating the close cooperation between the two organisations.

Thank you to all the centre representatives who we spoke to over the two days: we appreciated being able to get invaluable feedback from walls who attended.

You can see our Chair's report and our accounts for 2017-18 on our website (under 'Annual Reports' and Accounts') and we will add the minutes from the AGM to the website as soon as they're made available.
New-style Inductions
The first of our new style inductions, run by members of our Coach Development Team is scheduled for 10th October at HarroWall. Further dates and venues (nationwide) for November onwards will be published asap.

Please keep an eye on our website news and if you are awaiting an induction, email us to ensure we are keeping you informed of when you can get booked on.
TA Workshops
We are delighted to be able to offer two workshops run by Anne Salisbury. Anne is a leading expert and this workshop is aimed both at those interested in becoming a Technical Advisor, and existing advisors wanting a refresher.

Westway Climbing Centre, London, on 25th October. Book here

BMC Offices, Manchester, on 1st November. Book here
One-off climb certificates
Know about our participation certificates?  Do you give them out to taster session attendees (perhaps kids parties)? Do you like them...love them? Wouldn't ever touch them? It's your last chance to give us feedback on our current version of these certificates: take the short survey here. Many thanks!
Optimising your Junior Climbing programme
Jez Tapping (Westway Climbing Centre's head of climbing, regional climbing manager for EveryoneActive, and one of our Board Trustees) has written about optimising your junior programme. Some of you may have seen him presenting about this at the ABC conference. If you are running NICAS or NIBAS, then you are running a junior programme and this is a really interesting read. Access the article here.
