"So now that you're done with Chapter 4, do you get to kick back a little?"

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!

What an amusing thought. No, I've taken on 4-5 different freelance gigs I have to wrap up in 3-4 weeks, because survival is a bitch and I've had shitty role models in my life. On my plate as we speak is:
  • Cover art for an academic book
  • Wallpaper illustration for a couple's playroom (No, not that kind of playroom. Like an actual playroom with vintage arcades and shit, very cool.)
(Not that I would mind doing a different type of playroom.)
  • Branding design for a life coach.
  • Mural for some guy's garage.
  • A kind of chapbook/zine thing
On top of that, I'm in conversation with 3 different museums about possible exhibitions for next summer. And I'm also working with a friend on a screenplay (codenamed PROJECT BOOGIE).

The goal is to bring all this stuff to the finish line before the end of the month before swinging into THE SOLAR GRID #5!

Gotta take advantage of this summertime energy before I shrivel up into a hibernation blob come winter.

(Speaking of summertime energy, I'm back on instagram.)

(I miss when the weather was hardly even a concern of mine.)

Luckily though, the majority of the above-mentioned projects are essentially graphic design gigs, and I've been doing graphic design for 13+ years and can pretty much do it in my sleep at this point (my wife would very likely make the case that I've been doing exactly that).

I can probably actually fit in one more gig in there, so if anybody needs anything, don't hesitate to ask.

Now, on with the good stuff.

The Solar Grid – Chapter 04

THE SOLAR GRID #4: "What Has Sunk May Rise" is now live! It is 86 pages of genre-bending poli-scifi madness with some particularly kooky backmatter by James fucking Harvey!

The series has been described as "intoxicating & ambitious" by Flickering Myth, "dark & thought-provoking" by The Beat, and "one of the best science fiction comics coming out of anywhere" by Comic Bastards. And all that only covers chapters 1-3. This fourth chapter (over a year in the making) takes things to a whole new level.

THE SOLAR GRID #2, by the way, drops on ComiXology next Wednesday, August 8, 2018.
WRITES

Cyborg Ella

There were machines that could do Ella's job, but they were too expensive and awfully high maintenance. They only made sense if you had a farm triple the size of Maggie's. Only then would you grow enough Jivama to make up for a single machine's cost. And besides, Maggie figured, Ella was half machine anyway, and doing a fine enough job so far.

CYBORG ELLA is the latest short story in the TIMES NEW HUMAN series. I can only really describe it as Cinderella meets Maggie's Farm (the Bob Dylan song), set in a kind of Moorcockian world.
That reminds me:
I also need to write two short stories this month if I want to stay ahead of schedule.
😳
Remember when I talked about the shoot-self-in-foot method? It works, it really does!

TALKS

Unwanted Stories

"Through the art of science fiction, [Ganzeer] created a world where Human Beings are rare and Americanism is an ancient religion, practiced by the persecuted few, who fight to preserve the purity of the country’s ideals."

Interview in Boulder Weekly in the lead up to Denver book talk and signing for WHO WILL SPEAK FOR AMERICA? from Temple University Press.

Denver, CO:
Book talk for WHO WILL SPEAK FOR AMERICA? will take place at Tattered Cover Books on Colefax on August 9th, 7pm. The book's editor, Nathaniel Popkin, and myself will be there to discuss the book while being kept in check by Angela Evans of the Boulder Weekly.
We'll also be signing copies.

Ganzeer Says! Live Studio Tour

I did a livestream last week and not without a few technical hiccups along the way, it being my first time and all. But did manage to get it going, and towards the end got to answer some folks' questions about some process stuff.

Will likely do it again soon, but once I get me a better webcam, because the one on this dying Macbook Pro is shiiiiiiiiit.
