Bridge Funding Available to Tenure Track Faculty

University of Rochester Medical Center tenure track faculty and their chairpersons may secure bridge funding during a hiatus in research support. The goal of this program is to allow researchers to maintain their research momentum in order to obtain external funding.

Up to $50,000 will be made available through the Interim Funding Program and applicants may request a maximum of $75,000. The applicant’s department or center is expected to provide at least 50% of the awarded institutional funds, i.e., $25,000 for the maximum award of $75,000. Applicants will be required to provide a budget for the full amount of the award.

All questions and applications should be directed to Anne Reed.

Submit proposals by Sunday, September 30, 2018.

UNYTE Pilot Funding Request for Applications

UR CTSI's UNYTE Translational Research Network is now seeking applications for pilot study funding. Three types of awards will be considered:
  1. Investigator-initiated pilot studies for faculty ($50,000 maximum for one year).
  2. Investigator-initiated pilot studies for trainees, i.e. graduate or medical students, residents, postdocs, or fellows in University of Rochester training programs ($25,000 maximum for one year).
  3. UNYTE Translational Research Network grants ($50,000 maximum for one year). Faculty may participate as PI, co-PI, or mentor on only one submission per award category or may participate in multiple submissions per category as co-investigator.
Initial abstracts of proposals must be received by Monday, August 27, at 5:00 pm.

See full details and further deadlines in the UNYTE Pilot Studies Request for Application.

Recruiting Participants for Clinical Studies Using Social Media: Stakeholder Engagement, Case Studies,
and Lessons Learned

Presented by: Elizabeth Flood-Grady, Ph.D.

The University of Florida’s Clinical and Translational Science Institute’s Recruitment Center and Communications teams established a university-wide committee to address the growing interest in using social media to recruit participants into research studies. This webinar, hosted by the Trial Innovation Network, will cover topics relevant to this initiative and social media recruitment.

Date: Monday, August 6
Time: 12:00 – 1:00 pm

ResearchMatch Now Available in Spanish

ResearchMatch.org, a national online tool that matches people interested in research with clinical researchers throughout the U.S., recently launched a Spanish version of its website. With this change, ResearchMatch aims to increase the pool of Spanish-speaking research volunteers and the recruitment of underrepresented groups in research.

Researchers from the University of Rochester who want to connect with and recruit Spanish-speaking volunteers for their studies can submit Spanish contact messages to your Institutional Review Board for approval (including any other participant-facing materials, such as consent forms). Learn more about ResearchMatch.

Workshop: Single IRB Review for Multi-Site Research Resource and Infrastructure Development

The “Final NIH Policy on the Use of a Single Institutional Review Board (IRB) for Multi-Site Research,” streamlines IRB review for multi-site studies to reduce unnecessary delays and costs caused by duplicative review.

Awardees will gather at this free public workshop to share successful strategies and lessons learned for modifying and enhancing institutional IRB infrastructure for single IRB review of multi-site studies. Best practices developed from the workshop will be posted on the NIH website to help guide other institutions in achieving success in implementing single IRB review.

Please register for webcast or in-person attendance. Space is limited for in-person attendance.

Recruiting Patients With Billboard Ads
Do They Work?

One of the biggest challenges in clinical research is recruiting and enrolling patients. While many sites turn to more traditional outlets such as TV, radio, and print, others utilize online and social media.

As part of her Forte webinar, “The Art and Science Behind Media Planning and Buying for Patient Recruitment,” Jennifer Whitlock, principal at Mercer, answered a question regarding one of these less common media outlets – billboards. She shares her experience with billboard advertising for patient recruitment, and offers a few other ideas that sites may want to consider.
