Welcome and Newsletter

Welcome to The Waldorf School of Atlanta for the 2018-19 school year! We look forward to seeing all of our returning students and their families and eagerly anticipate welcoming our new families. We are excited about the year ahead!

This newsletter, the Breeze Bulletin, will be your primary source of information from WSA, including all events, updates, and plans throughout the school year.  Please watch for the newsletter on Fridays and read each week to stay abreast of what is going on in the school.

Grades & Middle School Rosters

Below you will find a list of grades and middle school class rosters, including students, birthdays, and parent contact information. Please click on the link for your class, and if you find any information incorrect, please update us at kmacken@waldorfatlanta.org.  

Preschool/Kindergarten rosters are being finalized and will be included before the Campus Family Work Day.

*Please note that rosters are for school related communication only.  A printed directory will be coming at the start of September.

Pizza Wednesday

Grades & Middle School

Consider giving your grades/middle school child the gift of fresh, hot Avondale Pizza Cafe pizza every Wednesday through December!  At the same time, you will be supporting a very grateful 8th grade class, who are looking forward to their class trip!  There will be 16 weeks of delivery for the semester, starting on Wednesday, August 22nd.  A Gluten free option is also available.  Look for a hard copy coming home with your child on the first week of school or pay online at SquareUp. Please return your order form with payment by Friday, August 17th. Order forms will be accepted after Friday, but in that case, your child's deliveries will start on the following week.  As Pizza Wednesday is a fund raiser, missed dates/orders will not be pro-rated or credited.  Contact Latonia Yarbrough with questions or comments at finance@waldorfatlanta.org.

Decatur Campus Family Work Day

The Waldorf School of Atlanta will hold our annual Decatur Campus Family Work Day from 9 am to 12 pm on Saturday, August 11th.   This is a time when everyone in our community - teachers, parents, and children - comes together to work on our classrooms, buildings, and grounds so that they will be fresh and ready for the start of the new school year.   Each teacher will have a list of tasks to be completed in their classroom.  Kindergarten Teachers may have specific tasks related to their play yards. Lice checks will be offered outside by the Hospitality Room as well. Don't forget to bring plenty of water and a snack or lunch for you and your family to eat before our fruit pop break at noon outside of the Hospitality Room.  We look forward to working with you!

New Parent Orientation

Welcome to new families!  Please plan to attend our new parent orientation evening on Monday, August 13th at 7pm in Hazelwood Hall. The Orientation evening is purposed as a guide for your family and as an opportunity to meet teachers, staff, and other new families in the school. If your family joined mid-year last year, please join us as well. 2018-19 Family Handbooks and WSA t-shirts will be distributed to new families. Some of the information families will receive includes:

Immunization Requirements

If you are new to the state or your child's immunization form has expired, you will need to turn in an updated Georgia State Form 3231. The school will be audited by the Board of Health a few weeks after school begins, and all students will need either an up-to-date Georgia Form 3231 on file or a new Georgia Affidavit Form 2208 for religious exemption from immunization requirements. (See attachment).  Additionally, if you have an old exemption affidavit form on file, you will need to update it with the new one as required by the state.  If you are unsure which form you have on file, please email Kathryn Macken (kmacken@waldorfatlanta.org).

Children entering Grade 7 will need booster vaccinations and updated forms.  Please follow the link to read the requirements.  Grade 7 Vaccination Requirements

Students entering Grade 1 will also need to turn in a hearing and vision form from their doctor or Board of Health.

You can visit a doctor or your local health department to bring your child's vaccination schedule up-to-date or to have them transfer out of state records into the Georgia registry. Please contact kmacken@waldorfatlanta.org if you have any questions.

Extended Day Help Needed

The Extended Day Program Director is currently seeking help for the coming school year in the afternoons for grades/middle school for a total of 7 hours per week. 
The schedule is as follows:
3 to 5 on Mondays and Tuesdays
1 to 4 on Thursdays

Fall Athletics Program

The WSA Athletic Programs will soon be underway!  Please see below for a listing of offerings for Middle School students. To register, follow the ACTIVE link below. A Sports Physical must be filled out by your child's doctor as well (see below for form.)  If you have any questions, please contact Lisa Novak at lnovak@waldorfatlanta.org.

Facility Updates

- A new air conditioning unit has been installed on the first floor of Hazelwood Hall.
- Ms. Pins' Kindergarten classroom has new carpeting.
- All the grades rooms have been freshly painted, with the exception of the 2nd grade classroom.
