How do you find a good carpool partner? The best riders for your route may be closer than you think.

Janet (left) and Cathy (right) work for different organizations housed within the same office building. While chatting one day in the office, they discovered they share the same commute
— so they decided to try carpooling. Now they carpool several times a week and have a great time doing it. (Here's a picture of them singing some carpool karaoke on their way to work.)

There are real benefits to carpooling: decreasing emissions, reducing wear-n-tear on your vehicle, building camaraderie with fellow riders
— and, of course, saving money. How much could you save? More than you realize:

More than 20,000 people rode on Bike to Work Day. Check out DRCOG's graphic visualization of participant commutes.
Smart Commute is once again supporting Go-Tober, the annual commute competition that pits company against company for the grand prize:  $7,000 in free paid mass media (think: CBS Billboards, NBC 9News Closed Captioning and Denver Business Journal print coverage for a total of more than 2 million impressions!).

Companies compete against companies with similar services (so a company sited in the suburbs would not compete against a company downtown). In 2017, two of the four winning companies were Smart Commute companies.

Late summer is a great time to grab a bike and go clown around. Our friend Cassie Eisenberger, who works at Panasonic North America and volunteers with the Alzheimer's Foundation in her spare time, shares the joy of bike riding whether at work or at play. She's a great advocate for mobility!

There are many great trails that are easy to ride on the weekend, and they can even help you commute by bike. Check out our post detailing some of the trails you can try.
In September, Smart Commute is launching the first-ever "North Metro Commuter Survey." We will be partnering with our local employers to promote the survey, and we will also launch the survey to you, our Smart Commuter readers. We appreciate your participation in helping us all better understand travel in the North Denver Metro.
The way we travel is changing  and it's getting more enjoyable.
Meet Deb from Adams County Economic Development (ACED). She's "scootin' around" in style at Smart Commute's 6th annual TransForum. Scooters aren't just toys we use for fun; they're an innovative mode of transportation, and they're a great way to get around.

Check out more photos from TransForum on Facebook.
CDOT is ready to roll up its sleeves and get to work on transportation projects across the state. Want a closer look? Check out CDOT's Interactive Statewide Projects Map. You can explore the scheduled projects per region by browsing through the tabs, or you can click on each pin on the map to learn more.

See what projects could soon be underway around the state if increased funding becomes available.
Interested in making a difference in your community? Apply for DRCOG's Citizen's Academy, starting this September.

Over the past decade, the Citizens’ Academy has inspired dozens of participants to pursue public service in the Denver region. Through the nationally recognized academy, participants learn from local experts and leaders, network with other residents and act on what they’ve learned. Since 2007, more than 800 residents from around the region have completed the academy.
