Two recent papers, one in the International Journal of Population Data Science and the other in Health Reports, illustrate the great potential of new data sets developed by Statistics Canada to shed new light on important societal issues. These data sets, accessible at the QICSS and covering nine provinces, do not include data from Quebec, as the province refuses to share them with Statistics Canada. Members of the QICSS team recently wrote about the pitfalls surrounding the absence of Quebec's health data in national datasets in an opinion piece published in Le Devoir.

This report aims to understand the role of women within the Canadian society and how this role has evolved over time. It draws on a wide range of data, accessible at the QICSS, which highlights the various conditions and situations experienced by women.
Évolution de la situation comparative de la rémunération horaire des travailleuses et des travailleurs salariés au Québec entre 1998 et 2016
The Institut de la statistique du Québec has just published a new study comparing the hourly earnings of female and male wage earners in Québec between 1998 and 2016. Using data from the Labor Force Survey (LFS) ), which is used at the QICSS, this study shows that, overall, the gender pay gap has decreased in Quebec.
