2018 Central Region Leadership Conference

Michigan DECA is pleased to be hosting the 2018 Central Regional Leadership Conference in Detroit on November, 16 to 18 at the Detroit Marriott Renaissance Center.  The conference is being designed to offer fast-paced activities that will increase your members understanding of marketing, management and entrepreneurship, and to increase their knowledge of DECA activities and competitive events.

The conference will be centered in Detroit, a city that has seen its own acceleration over the past few years, with the development of a dynamic downtown that is being fueled by local entrepreneurs that are leading the area in innovation with both jobs and activities throughout the downtown business community.

Michigan DECA is working with our planning committee and your chartered association advisor to finalize the details of the conference, with a target to have the registration materials available on August 20, 2018.

To help keep you informed of the latest plans for the conference and to assist with the promotion, we will be sending a weekly eBlast like this to spark your interest and to keep you informed of all of the conference activities.  This eBlast shows what press from around the world is saying about Detroit.  Next week will highlight things to do during your visit to Detroit.

New is a word familiar in Detroit.  New restaurants, entertainment districts, retailers and businesses are everywhere.  All this new 'stuff' is a sign that it's GO time in Detroit!

It's GO time Highlights
Each week we will highlight three things that you can see, do and dine while you are in Detroit.

See: The Guardian Building; A Rich History in Detroit's Financial District
The Guardian Building is a timeless depiction of creativity and accomplishment.  It represents a past era, enriched by people who belived in the success of Detroit and its many cultures.  The building has been designated a National Historic Landmark, the highest honor given by the National Park Service.

Do: Ford Field
We invite you to tour Ford Field for a behind-the-scenes glimpse at one of Detroit's major stadiums that is home to the Detroit Lions, Super Bowl XL and the 2009 NCAA Men's Basketball Final Four.

Guided tours will highlight the innovation in architecture as Ford Field integrates the stadium into the historic former Hudson's warehouse that was built in the 1920's.  Participants will get a peek at a suite, the NFL locker room, and walk down the tunnel to the field for a player's view of the stadium.

Dine: Hockeytown Cafe
Hockeytown Cafe opened in 1999, and is located at the site of the former Hughes Hatcher Suffrin men's clothing store which had occupied the corner location since 1911.  Hockeytown Cafe was created by Red Wings owner Mike Ilitch as a tribute to one of the most accomplished teams in the NHL, and offers great food and a fun atmosphere in the heart of The District Detroit.

Over 30 flat screen TVs throughout three floors, vintage motorcycles climbing the walls, a variety of private entertainment spaces and unique Detroit Red Wings and Tigers memorabilia greet you, with the ability to accommodate groups from up to 500 people in-house and up to 1,000 with our outdoor patio.  Hockeytown Cafe is the perfect place to host a private party or gathering for a pre or post-game meal. Hockeytown Cafe is also home to the City Theatre, an intimate 430-seat venue which hosts a variety of shows from single comedy acts to off-Broadway productions.
