DISASTER MANAGEMENT

Empowering Local Goverments for Better Disaster Risk Reduction

UCLG ASPAC participated in the Asian Ministerial Conference for Disaster Risk Reduction 2018 (AMCDRR), organised by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) and the Government of Mongolia from 3 to 6 July 2018. AMCDRR is held biennially and is an important establishment to address global and regional disaster challenges. The theme of the AMCDRR 2018 was “Preventing Disaster Risk, Protecting Sustainable Development” and the meeting sought to provide a unique platform for governments and stakeholders to build on past progress and limit current and future threats to development by prioritising stronger disaster risk management by all sectors and at all levels.

GLOBAL FORUM

High Level Policy Forum in New York: Voice Local Needs at Global Level

JULY 9-18, 2018, UN Headquarters in New York, US, hosted a High Level Political Forum (HLPF), UN’s main platform on sustainable development, which also undertakes a central role in the follow-up of the 2030 agenda. HLPF 2018 was the main event from series of preparations and one of it is the 5th Asia Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development back in 28-30 March 2018 held in Bangkok. HLPF 2018 took theme “Transformation towards Sustainable and Resilient Societies.” UCLG ASPAC, represented by Secretary General Bernadia Irawati Tjandradewi, contributed with other global leaders as part of Global Taskforce and delivered her support in the side event of HLPF.

LOCALISE SDGs: Synchronising Local Inspiration to Global Agenda

AFTER the Millenium Development Goals or MDGs in 2015, 194 countries have come into another agreement to realise social welfare and development equality. On 25 September 2015, the United Nations (UN) member states drafted the 17 achievement agenda to be pursued until 2030, called Sustainable Development Goals or SDGs.

CLIMATE ACTION

Understanding LG Needs towards a Common Global Reporting

“THE Global Covenant of Mayors (GCoM) asks cities to set targets that are at least as ambitious as Indonesian Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs)”. This was the highlight following the result of Focus Group Discussion on “Survey and Consultation for Common Reporting Framework Climate and Energy”, organised by UCLG ASPAC in cooperation with IUC Asia and EU on 29 June 2018 in Jakarta, Indonesia.

THE Hague Academy presents a mobile-friendly training from 29 October to 23 November 2018 which will focus on the knowledge and skills to design an effective LED strategy together with relevant stakeholders. This interactive training will make use of the Academy’s unique problem–based approach and collaborative learning methods. Participants will exchange experiences with fellow professionals, engage in interactive assignments, receive personal coaching, and earn an accredited certificate after completion.
