Golden Eagle Update: All Trails Open Again at Los Vaqueros!
Los Vaqueros is a prime nesting area for Golden Eagles. Several hiking trails were closed from March through the end of June to protect nesting Golden Eagles in the Watershed. We appreciate everyone’s patience during that time, as nesting Golden Eagles are extremely sensitive to the presence of people. The trails are now open again, and we have at least four fledged Golden Eagle chicks.

For more information, check out the Golden Eagles page on the Los Vaqueros website.
Don't Ditch a Fish!
Help us protect our fisheries, native species, and fragile ecosystems. Transporting and releasing live fish—or any aquarium species—into the reservoir, ponds and creeks is illegal and harmful. Report violations to the Watershed Office at 925-240-2360.
Watershed Hours

April through August
6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

September
7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Upcoming Events

Los Vaqueros Tarantula Run!
Get ready to traverse the hills of Los Vaqueros Reservoir on Saturday, October 13, 2018! The Tarantula Run was first held in 2006, organized to recognize the Contra Costa Water District's 70th anniversary and encourage visitation to the Los Vaqueros Watershed. It's held in October, since that's the time when male tarantulas are usually roaming the watershed looking for mates. The run has plenty of excitement including the chance of tarantula sightings along the course! Add in a free Kids Spider Scramble for children 10 and under, half marathon, 10K and 5K runners and you have adventure for everyone!

Walkers/hikers and runners of all levels are welcome!
