Patronal Feast Day is a significant event in the Jesuit calendar where the whole College and Ignatian Community comes together to celebrate and honour our patron, Saint Ignatius. On Tuesday, our College community gathered at St Ignatius Church in Norwood to celebrate together.
John Scanlon back for a visit with an old classmate
Recently the College had a very special visit from an Old Ignatian all the way from Geneva, Switzerland. John Scanlon (Class of 1978) came back to the Senior School to visit his classmate and current Principal, Peter Coffey (also Class of 1978) for a catch up and a tour of the ever growing and evolving College.

In his professional life, John has been recognised for outstanding service in his field. He has previously served as the Secretary-General of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) since 2010, and has recently joined the conservation non-profit "African Parks" to help advance their mission in the rehabilitation and long-term management of national parks in partnership with governments and local communities. This includes 15 national parks and protected areas in nine countries covering 10.5 million hectares: Benin, Central African Republic, Chad, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Malawi, Mozambique, the Republic of Congo, Rwanda and Zambia.

Old Ignatians are always men and women for others and for each other.
John is an example of these Ignatian values.
Scriptures come to life in the classroom

Spotted on the cover of the Southern Cross, July Edition:
Old Ignatian Sean Carr (Class of 1977) is the Director of Early Years Learning at Christian Brothers College. Sean recently brought Lou Lou the lamb into his classroom to provide a visual support for the teachings of the story of the Good Shepherd and looking for the lost sheep.

Sean hoped that his students would think about scripture whenever they see a lamb in the future.

A passionate Pilot in the making
How cool is this?! Check out Old Ignatian, Josh Sheldon (Class of 2017) talking with such passion about his love of flying and aviation. Following in his Father’s footsteps, Josh is currently in first year studying the RMIT Associate Degree in Aviation (Professional Pilots) through Harwtig Air.

Past Parents knitting up a storm
Also in the Southern Cross July Edition: Past Parents and Fidelis Members, Pat Holdcroft and Joan Glastonbury, knitting up a storm!

Formed just over a decade ago, the Dulwich parish knitting group has donated more than 1000 rugs to various services, including Fred’s Van, Hutt Steet Centre, Adelaide Day Centre for Homeless Persons, the Otherway Centre and the Migrant and Refugee Service. Well done ladies!

Class of 2008 - 10 Year Reunion
On Friday, 27 July the Class of 2008 celebrated their 10 Year Reunion back at the College. It was such a fabulous night buzzing with laughter and energy amongst the Old Ignatians reliving their fond memories together.
One Old Ignatian, Michael Pretty spent his high school years passionate about trains and buses, only to go on and purchase 3 vintage buses! Michael drove one bus named “2008” to the Reunion and everyone hopped on board and sang “Deo Gloria” at the top of their lungs!

To check out more images from this Reunion and to see Michael's bus, please visit the OIA Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/OldIgnatiansAssociation/

50 & 60 Year Reunion for the Classes of 1956-1968
Thank you to those who attended the 50 & 60 Year Reunion on Sunday, 17th June at the Senior School Campus. It was a beautiful, fresh winter’s day which started out with Mass in the Chapel of the Holy Name. The Group then was lead on a College tour, by Principal and Old Ignatian, Mr Peter Coffey (Class of 1978) which included an impressive archives display from their time at the College. This was then followed by a superb BBQ Brunch in the Bellarmine Room. What an excellent day filled with memories and pancakes!
