Holidays that Help our Natural Heritage

Summer holiday season is upon us, and the remarkable heatwave continues both here and abroad - a facet of our changing climate that we are going to have to adapt to (and help nature to do so also).

This month's newsletter explores how tourism can be a force for good for our environment, through the concept of 'eco-tourism' that connects responsible travellers to nature conservation and communities.
Have a read of our Bio Blog (excerpt below) to find out how VisitBrighton are embracing eco-tourism through their work in partnership with The Living Coast programme.

We also have BIG NEWS to announce about developing more sustainable tourism!
Working with Biosphere partners in England and France, we have successfully secured major EU funding for a 3-year project to pioneer a new approach of 'Bio-Cultural Heritage Tourism'. The aim is to increase tourism income and improve visitor experience, whilst reducing its environmental impacts.
Good news for both people and nature, as our mission aims to achieve!

Bio Blog - Visit Brighton for Eco Tourism

Tourism is big business in Brighton & Hove, with 11.5 million visitors generating £886 million for the local economy.
VisitBrighton is the official tourism body that promotes the city to both leisure and business visitors nationally and internationally. Our main goal is always to encourage visitors to stay for longer and hence get more from their visit and spend more too.

Increasingly visitors are moving away from the idea of being a traditional tourist, and prefer to think of themselves instead as travellers to really immerse themselves in a place through authentic experiences.

Two key aspects of our tourism brand identity are Culture & Wellness.
Eco-tourism is a key part of our tourism strategy, inspiring visitors whilst they enjoy their holiday and encouraging them to be responsible travellers also.

People can use Brighton as a base while they explore the wider area of our ‘world-class environment’ of The Living Coast, as a key part of our eco-tourism message.

- Voluntary roles (various) at Railway Land Wildlife Trust
- Stanmer Apple Day volunteers for Brighton Permaculture Trust
