Welcome to our e-newsletter!

Wrapping up Summer Reading, gearing up for the semi-annual Used Book Sale, and more.  Read on for more information about upcoming events and opportunities for children, teens, and adults.
News and Notes
A staff in-service day, a primary election, and the used book sale, all coming soon!
Do you have a couple of hours to spare to help make the upcoming book sale a success?  It takes many people to set up and staff this 3-day event, which typically raises over $1500 for the library.  To volunteer, simply stop by the desk or call 231-894-9531.  Thank you!
Adult Programs
The “Libraries Rock” reading program for adults continues through August 18 - log just three books to win a finisher’s prize.  Every book read and every event attended is another chance in the grand prize drawing, too.  Here’s a quick overview of upcoming programs; for more details, visit the website or give us a call!
Two free events for music lovers...
And three for book lovers!
 Programs for Kids and Families
Hurry and get your summer reading prizes while supplies last!  Our records show we have given out over 350 prizes, but we owe kids another 220!  You can continue to log your reading time and collect rewards through August 11, although our summer programs have now ended.  Fall programs are set to begin in late September.  In the meantime, don't miss the White Lake Music Society performance here at the library.  Visit their website for information on the many free and low-cost events that are part of the Chamber Music Festival.

Teen Happenings

The Teen Summer Reading Challenge ends August 12!  Log your reading online today for your chance to win t-shirts, gift cards, and movie passes.  And mark your calendars for the End-of-Summer Party on August 30.  We'll be decorating old records & CDs, painting with coffee, and watching Avengers Infinity War.  Coming this fall: an all-new Escape Room challenge! Stay tuned for more details.

LEAVE A LEGACY:  We are growing our Endowment Fund with the Community Foundation for Muskegon County.  In the future, we will be able to draw from the fund for any expenses of the library.  If we had $1 million in the account, we would be able to draw approximately $40,000 annually to help the library provide a myriad of services and resources we would like to offer, but cannot currently afford.

Please consider making a gift to the White Lake Community Library Fund of the Community Foundation for Muskegon County.  For more information, contact me at 231-894-9531 or whisw@llcoop.org.

BOOK SALE COMING: We need book sorters for all the books we have in the basement.  If you have an hour or two to spare, just drop by and we will show you how to sort for us.  We have sooooo many books because our Summer Book Sale is coming: August 23 from 5-6 PM for Friends members’ sneak preview (memberships can be paid at the door) and  6-8 PM open to the public; August 24 from 10 AM – 4 PM and August 25 from 10 AM – 3 PM for the all-day $2/bag sale.  For your shopping convenience, we now accept credit cards, too.

Now is a good time to sort through those books you don’t have room to keep.  Bring in donations early so we have time to sort them.  We will stop taking donations the week of the sale.

Please note, the library will  be closed Friday, August 17 for an in-service day.  Items can be dropped off at the book drop.  Anything picked up Saturday will be back-dated to Friday.
