Arts Council Feature:
Prince Albert Council for the Arts
"Wall of Champions"

At our Prince Albert Arts Center we've created a 'Wall of Champions'  to honour long time local visual artists within its  walls. Using this wall as a visual,  it is our intent to acknowledge local artists who have impacted the Prince Albert Arts Center upon this wall.

We began this 'Wall of Champions'  a couple of years ago when we honoured Linda Erhardt posthumously.  She impacted the local community within the Prince Albert  Arts Center, bringing it alive with her love for pottery.  Young and old were surrounded and impacted by her skills, knowledge and her desire to share her gift.

Recently we were fortunate to honour another Prince Albert artist who has had a very long relationship with the Prince Albert Arts Center.   A few weeks ago we celebrated Herve Vallee.   He is 92 years of age and a founding member of the Prince Albert Council for the Arts.  He immersed himself into the arts community shortly after arriving, 65 years ago. Over time he found himself  taking on a variety of different roles at the Centre.....

Culture Days Bursary
OSAC is again offering a Culture Days Bursary for Arts Councils that are planning an event for September 28-30. The application and further details can be found at www.osac.ca .

New Login Button
You may notice a new Login button at the top of the OSAC website.  You do not have to login to access the website.  We have developed a section for performers to login to submit their price list information.  We will be launching the Member login section later this summer.

Culture Track Canada Report
After four years of hard work by Business/Arts, with support from the Canadian Arts Summit and arts service organizations such as CAPACOA, the first edition of Culture Track Canada was released. The ground-breaking study looks at how Canadians define and interact with the arts. Based on interviews with more than 6,400 culture-goers from coast-to-coast. The data provides critical insight into audience behaviour that will help arts organizations, businesses and government navigate the Canadian cultural landscape and stay relevant to the evolving cultural consumer.

Serving Liquor at Arts Council Events
On May 28 I sent an email to each Arts Council regarding a letter that was included in the Liability insurance renewal from Henderson Insurance. The insurance underwriters are requiring that anyone who serves alcohol at an event must have servers who have completed the Serving It Right (SIRs) program. It took me about an hour to complete the course and exam and the cost is $10 for organizations who use Special Occasion Permits.
If you did not receive the email, or would like more information, do not hesitate to contact Kevin .
This is very important as the insurer could refuse a claim if something happens and the Arts Council and whoever is named on the permit could be liable for settling the claim. Please look into this over the summer prior to the Fall season starting. This would include a Wine and cheese reception at an exhibition opening or having a bar at a concert.

 ISC Registration
The office has had some questions regarding being registered with ISC. While not an absolute requirement of being an OSAC member, I would strongly recommend that each OSAC Arts Council spend the time, and a small amount of money to become registered. Many granting organizations now require a non–profit number if you are applying for additional funding, including a bingo licence. It also offers some protection from certain legal issues. You can find more information here including the benefits of registering. If your Arts Council is registered please send your Non Profit number to the OSAC office when you are paying your Arts Council Membership – the invoices were sent out this week. Just a post – it note with the number will suffice.

Districts’ Workshops
I would strongly encourage all OSAC members to register for the newsletter from their local Sports Culture and Recreation District. You can find a map and links to the District websites here. That way you will be getting the most up-to-date information. Please remember that some workshops will qualify for support from OSAC if financial support is not available from the District.

Logos Logos Logos
Thank you to the Arts Councils that have updated their websites to have the correct, and most current logos. If you have yet to update your site, please ensure you have all the latest available logos on your site. They can all be found here.

We do understand that website design and upkeep can be challenging for Arts Councils. One idea is to reach out to the local High School or Community College to see if someone in the IT classes may be interested in volunteering to help with your website. Also, if you are a registered charity or non-profit, you may be able to access web design tools through TechSoup Canada at a vastly reduced cost. You can learn more about TechSoup Canada here

Enjoy the Summer!
Things will be a little quiet over the next few weeks as we head to year end.  The only item I have it to remind you to cash your grant cheques and get all your payments in for SOCAN and Re:Sound.  Other than that, there is not a lot of info to report.  It won’t be long until we get to August and invoices, sub-contracts and press releases will start flowing again for 2018/2019 and we will start to announce showcase performers!  In the mean time I hope you all have a great summer!

SOCAN
If you are part of the central reporting program and you receive any invoices or communications of any kind from SOCAN please let me know asap.

REMINDER

If you did not receive or have lost your Bill of Lading, please contact me and I will email you the correct document.
