THE PLACES OF BINGHAM
AND MAGDALENE

A mark of Jesus' ministry was that He walked among the poor and brokenhearted. When the religious of His day pridefully pulled away from the sinners, Jesus sought them out, spoke to them, touched them, and healed them. He showed the compassionate heart of the Father by truly being present with them and meeting them right where they were.

We want to represent the heart of Jesus in this tangible way by going out into the streets of our schemes and loving the broken in the midst of their brokenness. The places and buildings below may look pretty ordinary, but in the hands of our extraordinary God, we pray they will be rich harvest fields in the days to come.

The churches of 20schemes host cafes in their buildings as a way to provide a welcoming space for the church to connect with unbelievers. Food is provided at a low cost, and the cafe is staffed by men and women in the church who are intentional to build relationships and have spiritual conversations. Please pray for God to draw men and women to Jesus as the gospel is shared at Hope Community Cafe in Bingham.

The dark blue building with the green cross is the chemist, or pharmacy. This may seem like an uninteresting place to the average person, but to former heroin addicts, the chemist is where they get their daily hit of prescription methadone to handle their withdrawal pains. The drug is legal, but they're still enslaved to addiction. They come like clockwork, every 24 hours. So the chemist is a prime place to meet the broken and despairing. Please pray for relationships to be built with the men and women here.  Pray that the Spirit will give them ears to hear and hearts to believe the gospel of Jesus so they will be set free from their chains of addiction and know the freedom of adoption in Christ.

The bed and breakfast on this corner is a place homeless people are placed. Most are drug users, and all have had chaotic lives. Martin has connected to many by simply standing outside, starting conversations, and being present with them. Several have come into the cafe and heard the gospel. Please pray for the men and women who live here - that "God, who said, 'Let light shine out of darkness,' [will shine in their] hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ" (2 Cor 4:6, ESV).

The community garden is a secular initiative that is just starting, but eventually 50 plots will be planted here. The nature of tending and harvesting a garden allows for lots of time and conversations with people in the community. Please pray for the relationships that have already started here and that God would soften the hearts of the men and women at the garden to repent and believe in Jesus.

John 1:5 says, "The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it." We are so thankful for this promise of Jesus as we do ministry in the darkness of Scotland's schemes. And we pray each of you know more and more deeply the hope of our Savior and his conquering light.

Much love in our victorious King!
Martin and Cristi
