ST FRANCIS XAVIER SCHOOL
Welcome to Conor and Sophia who started school recently. We hope that you really enjoy your school days at St Francis Xavier. You have both made a lovely start in Room 1.
Principal's Message

Welcome back to Term 3.  I hope that you managed to take some time out to recharge your batteries with your children. The children have come back in great spirits and ready to go so thank you.  I had a lovely break where I got the opportunity to have some fun and explore new places with my family.  It was a privilege and reminded me how important it is to sometimes just stop and give thanks for what we have and for those around us.

We started the new term with an assembly where I shared what was happening this term and it is shaping up to be a busy term.  Please check the Newsletter, school website or the calendar on Skool Loop for upcoming events and dates.

This term we have started a lunch time Yin Yoga /Pilates class which is
being run by an experienced instructor. The children who attended
yesterday loved it. I joined in too and we came away feeling very relaxed.

The Lilliput Libraries are now up and running.  It is a great opportunity to read some new books that perhaps you wouldn't buy for yourself.  We would love some donations of books to get them full.

On Tuesday at lunchtimes Isabella and Amy will be helping children make their own lunch wraps.
The inspiration for this project has come from their attendance at the National Young Leaders Day last term.  Their goal is that St Francis Xavier will be plastic bag/wrap free by term 4.  This is a way to stop gladwrap using being used in lunchboxes.  If you have any donations of fabric please bring them in.

Have you booked your school interview?

These are being held on Wednesday 8th and Thursday 9th August 2018. This is a valuable opportunity to meet with your child's teacher and discuss your child's progress.
Bookings are now open. To book your interview online please see the details below:

There is a FAMILY MASS this Sunday at 9.30am.If you are unable to attend please let your child's teacher know.  We look forward to coming together as a school community to start the term.  There will be Children's Liturgy for pre-schoolers run by Mrs Montgomery.

On Friday 3 September all children are encouraged to wear mufti and bring along a prize to donate for the raffles at the quiz night.  It is time to start gathering your team. There will be more details to follow.

Just a reminder that on Friday 17 August the Dunedin Catholic Schools Kahui Ako (Dunedin Catholic Schools Community of Learning) is holding an expo day. The school will be closed for the day. Thank you for support with our Teacher Development.

If you have any problems or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me. My door is always open.

One winter night I sneaked out of my bed. It was freezing cold so I had to put 20 layers of clothes on before I left my room. I put my slippers on then I ran outside and jumped into some snow. I got up and my bottom was all wet. I had to go back inside and put on even more pants. Then I went to build a snowman. First, I made a snowball, then I rolled it in the snow, then I repeated it three times. I got paint out of the basement and I painted rocks black and put the rocks on the head and on the bottom so it was the eyes and buttons. When I was finished the snowman it was already 12pm. The snowman came to life! It woke me up at 12.30am and I said “OMG”. I took it out of my room and I took it for a walk around my house then it took me outside and it ran and jumped and my snowman then flew all the way to Santa and back. When I woke up the next day the snowman melted and I was super sad.
