UNCERD Trip Recap
聯合國之行回顧

Hong Kong Unison and 11 other NGOs formed a delegation to go to Geneva to speak in front of the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) regarding Hong Kong government's work on upholding racial equality under the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (ICERD). It has been almost ten years since the last review period.

UNCERD examined the reports submitted by China, Hong Kong SAR, and Macau SAR governments in Geneva on 10th and 13th August. The Committee posed numerous questions to the HKSAR government on critical issues fueling the hardships faced by ethnic minorities and vulnerable groups in Hong Kong. It was regrettable that the HK government delegation avoided questions and refused to implement or provide updates on progress with respect to the essential recommendations made by the Committee in 2009.

The CERD is expected to release its concluding observations on Aug 30 on improvements the HKSAR government should make.
