Open Annual All Hands Meeting: Registration Now Open

Calling all data enthusiasts! Join ​colleagues from industry, academia, nonprofits, and government Sept. 20 for our 2018 Open Annual All Hands Meeting, in scenic Boise, Idaho!

Your leadership and participation will strengthen our community as we embark on the next phase of #BDHubs. ​Besides the updates on our flagship initiatives, community-led sessions on Data Science Education, Data Ethics, Smart & Connected Communities, Health Data, Infrastructure and other topics...this year we will feature hands-on facilitated 'collaboration sprints' for road-mapping current and future projects. Yes, there will be a talented graphic facilitator to help us visualized a shared, collaborative trajectory and create a tangible take-home #WestData18 souvenir.

Data Science Pedagogy & Practice Workshop Materials

We co-hosted a lively Workshop on Undergraduate Data Science Pedagogy & Practice last week, welcoming 34 universities and colleges from across the nation. Solving for Safety for Visualization Challenge 

In the US Department of Transportation's Solving for Safety: Visualization Challenge, individuals, and teams will compete for $350,000 in cash prizes by developing innovative analytical visualization tools to gain insights or inform decisions to reduce fatalities and serious injuries on the U.S. road and rail systems.

Please consider participating in the Solving for Safety Visualization Challenge as a Solver submitting innovative ideas or as an Innovation Agent providing real-world knowledge, guidance, insight, issues, and data to participants. Upload your innovative idea by the Stage I deadline on July 31, 2018, 11:59 PM ET. 
 



Introduction to Jupyter for Water Data Analysis: Materials + Video Recording Available


Thanks to all 50+ participants who joined us last Monday for the Lawrence Berkeley National LaboratoryProject JupyterUC Berkeley, and Kitware, Inc. virtual tutorial for the California Water Data Challenge. Challenge participants were introduced to open-sourced Jupyter notebooks, with content from both R and Python, as well as interactive data visualization examples.

Three video segments are now online, with the tutorial materials. The first segment is a broadly-applicable general Jupyter tutorial and update. We encourage you to join the conversation on slack and check out the YouTube #CAWaterDataChallenge Playlist!
