We are finishing up the Summer Reading Program.  There is still time to get all of your books recorded.  
We have a program for EVERYONE, if you haven't had a chance to join, stop in!  Here is an update of everything going on this month, hope to see you soon. 

Summer Reading Program
CHILDREN:

Join Orrville Public Library’s Children’s Department this summer as we celebrate and read all summer long. A special Pete the Cat program on August 2 will feature a visit from Pete.  Young readers can rock their summer by contributing to the Libraries Rock! School Supply Drive.  We will be collecting packs of 10 pencils for Orrville Salvation Army.

YOUNG ADULT:
 

The Young Adult Summer Reading Program, for grades 7-12, will feature Book Bingo. Each bingo offers you the chance to pick from a wide variety of prizes. Yes, you can choose your own prize from the basket! Winners will be drawn at the end of the Summer Reading Program for a grand prize as well.  All of the Summer Reading Assignment books will also be available. And they count toward your bingo too!

ADULT:

Adults, age 18 and over, can also win prizes by reading this summer. Prizes throughout the summer will include items like gift cards, gift baskets, or tickets to the Akron RubberDucks.  Just fill out an entry ticket for each book you read from June 1 to August 18.  You can earn bonus entries for attending an adult program or participating in our back-to-school donation drive. 

ROCKIN' WITH PETE

Children aged 4-8 are invited on Thursday, August 2nd at 2:00 pm to Rock with Pete the Cat!!

They will enjoy stories, songs, games, and a visit from a live Pete the Cat. 

(The live Pete the Cat will be visiting all story times on July 30th & 31st, so those who attend story time should not register for this event.) 

Bring your camera for special photos with this famous book character.

BACK-TO-SCHOOL DUCT TAPE DESIGNS

Duct tape is a fun way to turn ordinary items into one-of-kind expressions of art and we will be creating on Thursday, August 9th at 2:00 pm.

Bring your back-to-school notebooks or pencils to personalize with our supply of duct tape.  Let your imagination go wild!

This free program is for those in 7th – 12th grades.  No registration is required.

MUSIC TRIVIA NIGHT
 

Do you and your friends remember Britney Spears, Vanilla Ice, or the Spice Girls? Gather those friends and take a trip back to the 90s to see what you remember about the music. 

Work alone or in groups at our Music Trivia Night on Thursday, August 9th at 6:30 p.m. Answer enough questions right and win a prize.

ICE CREAM SOCIAL
 

We are ending our Summer Reading with our annual Ice Cream Social.

Bring the whole family and enjoy free ice cream on Friday, August 10th from 1:00 - 4:00 pm! 

This is the final event for the Children’s Summer Reading Program but you can keep on reading and earning prizes until August 18.

READY, SET, KINDERGARTEN

The beginning of school is coming up soon.  Is your kindergarter getting excited?  

Bring them to Orrville Public Library’s “Ready, Set, Kindergarten!” program.  Children will enjoy stories, games, and crafts with a school-related theme.

The library will offer a morning session on Tuesday, August 14th at 10 a.m. and an evening session at 6:30 p.m.  

Registration is required.

Faux Hand Lettering

You don't need to know calligraphy or be a fancy artist to make a beautiful hand-made sign! Join us on Thursday, August 16 at 6:00 pm to learn how.

Mrs. Wright, Orrville Public Library staff member, will lead adults in making an 8 x 10 sign utilizing her own style of hand lettering. 

At this FREE event an 8 x 10 canvas and special markers will be provided for you to make a sign of your own design.

Registration begins Wednesday, August 1.

INSTANT POT CLASS

Sara Meeks from the Wayne County Extension Office will be here on Tuesday, August 28th at 6:30 p.m. to help de-mystify this magical machine.  

Have you heard the hype about the new programmable pressure cooker, commonly known as the Instant Pot?  Are you interested in learning more about how to use this magical machine? Are you curious about how they work and if they are worth purchasing? This class is for you! Come and join an interactive class where we learn the functions of this new style of pressure cooker and prepare and sample a dish or two.

Family Folk Tales
 

Master Story Teller Gordon Maupin will join us at 6 p.m. on Thursday, August 30 for an evening of both tall and true tales. 

The whole family will enjoy these folk tales that will have you laughing, crying, and finding yourself in the story.  Margaret Maupin will join in with a few fanciful tales as well for this family evening of fun.

Registration is not required.  End your summer with a tale to keep you warm all year.
