COLLECTORS' CORNER in August
The artistic process demands an understating of how the world is visually constructed and most artists spend a great deal of time learning the discipline of their craft so that a fair representation of reality can be presented in their paintings. Many artists never move from this level and still produce masterful works worthy of notice. However, as can be seen in Picasso’s early works compared to his later ones, many artists mature beyond what is visually obvious to a reliance upon their feelings.

I would imagine most artists do this for the same reason I have chosen, at least for a season, to do the same -it is a break from the routine of repetitive thinking. New avenues of thought can be explored, and consequently, creative excitement is fostered again if one is experiencing a stale period. A true artist is always exploring new avenues of creative thought.

Personally, the best example to date of my change and growth will be showcased at the Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum in Ilwaco, Washington until October 6. Never before has such a retrospective, from my childhood paintings to art school academic exercises, from career beginnings to expressionistic maturity, been shown in one place. Private paintings never before exhibited, will be showcased, as well as national award winners.

It is an honor to do such a show with fellow friend and artist David Campiche, a sculptor of pottery; I hope you can enjoy the show.

Thank you for the journey!

- Eric

The Glass Floats in this painting bring back memories of finding them on the beach as a child with my Dad. Years later I shared the same experience finding them with my children. - Eric
