By joining at Hilburn, you also become a member of North Carolina PTA and National PTA. Our 2017-18 year was our largest parent, teacher and community membership to date. What's happening at Hilburn over the summer
School is out for the summer, but it's still a happening place! Hilburn is a Raleigh Parks and Recreation summer day camp site, so there have been children having fun at school this summer. Out back, teacher Ms. Browndorf has been working in the garden, with student and parent volunteers to make sure the garden is well tended. Also, the basketball court is finished! Thanks to all our Hilburn Hawk families who helped raise money for this PTA-funded basketball court. Inside the school, things are being spruced up, too, to welcome all our Hawks back for the First Day of School for Wake County Public School System traditional calendar students on Monday, August 27. Meet the new PTA Board

This and that about your Hilburn PTA Board
We're busy parents and staff just like you. We like to think we're fun, too. Here's more about us:
Laura Burrell: I am the band director at Hilburn Academy. When I'm not making awesome music with my students, I love spending time with my family and my golden retriever, Baloo.
Nissa Byrne: A friend said, "PTA is your hobby." She was right, and so I built our PTA website in 2015. I also love to sew and help out in the library.
Valonda Calloway: I'm in my second year on the PTA Board. My husband Randal and I are parents of fifth grade student Lilyn Calloway. I love the arts and am a dance teacher and media professional.
LeAndria Dingle: I am excited about being a new PTA Board member as co-leader of Family Involvement at Hilburn. Something really fun about me is I love to teach and currently teach kids computer programming in the RDU area for the past three years. I also love spending time with my children, all who have and currently attend Hilburn. I love classical music, music of all genres and learning about new cultures.
Patrick Fiduccia: I have 4 children at Hilburn Academy and love to spend time with them whenever I am not traveling. I also spend my spare time cooking and learning new styles and doing BBQ competitions.
Jyostna Garg: I am a mom to a first grader at Hilburn and a biostatistician by profession. I love spending time with my family and friends, hiking, traveling and keeping up with current events.
Erin Gannon: I am a passionate teacher of both students and educators. Travel, photography, cheese, and a brown dog named Maddox are among my favorite things.
Heather Huffine: I’m a working mom of 2 busy boys that loves the outdoors, reading and spending time with my family. I can be be found at the hockey rink in the winter and at the pool in the summer.
Sofia Lopez-Richert: I have three children. All attend Hilburn: Charlie is a first grader, Juliana a fourth grader and Clariza a fifth grader. I am a graduate of the University of Florida with a BS in engineering (best 8 years of my life!); ran Rock-n-Roll Half Marathon in April (I am only half crazy) and am training for City of Oaks in November (maybe I am full crazy). I am trapped in the 80’s musically.
Lauren King: I'm the parent of a rising first grader at Hilburn Academy. In my free time, I enjoy playing tennis and watching Wolfpack sports!
Julie Rivera: I'm your 2018-2019 Hilburn Academy PTA President, and I'm both honored and excited for this opportunity. I have been an active part of the Hilburn community since 2014 and have served on the board for the past two years. I now have three children enrolled at the school all at the elementary level. Prior to having children, I worked as a human resources manager, however, now I stay home with my children and volunteer at the school and at our church. I look forward to seeing everyone on the hill.
LJ Van den Troost: I've been a Hilburn parent for almost 10 years now and have watched it grow from an under-enrolled elementary school into a successful and flourshing Pre-K thru 8 model and STEAM school! I'm excited to be a middle school parent this year and I look forward to helping our students navigate their new terrain.
Dawn Vaughan: I like basketball, reading, volunteering at school, journalism, holidays, photography, Broadway, learning new things and a lot of other cool stuff. I'm a newspaper reporter and a Hokie. My son is a fifth grader. I love Hilburn!

Do you want to get involved in Hilburn PTA this year? We need your help.
Membership Committee
We need a Membership Committee Chair and others who want to help with our PTA membership. Members are Hilburn parents, Hilburn teachers and staff, and the Hilburn community. If you are one of them, we need your help to recruit and sign up members and promote membership! PTA is the largest advocacy group for public education. Members of Hilburn PTA are also members of North Carolina PTA and National PTA. If you are interested in volunteering, email PTA President Julie Rivera at hilburnptapresident@gmail.com.

The General Vice President position on the PTA Board is open. If you would be interested in serving in the role, which includes being backup for the president, attending board meetings and volunteering at PTA events and programs, email PTA President Julie Rivera at hilburnptapresident@gmail.com.
